Romans 8:15 - Easy To Read Version

15 The Spirit {\cf2\super [65]} that we received is not a spirit that makes us slaves again and causes us to fear. The Spirit that we have makes us God’s chosen children. And with that Spirit we say, “Abba, {\cf2\super [66]} Father.”

Then the people said to Moses, “If you want to speak to us, then we will listen. But please don’t let God speak to us. If this happens, we will die.”


“I, the Lord, said to myself,\par ‘I want to treat you like my own children.\par I want to give you a pleasant land,\par a land more beautiful\par than any other nation.’\par I thought that you would call me ‘Father.’\par I thought that you would always follow me.\par


The people of Israel said to Moses, “We know that we will die! We are lost! We will all be destroyed!


So I was afraid. I went and hid your money in the ground. Here is the one bag of money you gave me.’


Jesus prayed, “Abba, {\cf2\super [206]} Father! You can do all things. Let me not have this cup {\cf2\super [207]} \{of suffering\}. But do what you want, not what I want.”


Jesus said to the followers, “When you pray, pray like this:


“Father, if it is what you want, then let me not have this cup {\cf2\super [358]} \{of suffering\}. But do what you want, not what I want.”


All the people asked Jesus to go away. They were afraid.


When the Helper comes, he will prove to the people of the world the truth about these things: about sin, about being right with God, and about judgment.


Jesus said to her, “Don’t hold me. I have not yet gone back up to the Father. But go to my brothers (followers) and tell them this: ‘I am going back to my Father and your Father. I am going back to my God and your God.’”


The jailer told someone to bring a light. Then he ran inside. He was shaking. He fell down in front of Paul and Silas.


When the people heard this, they felt very, very sorry. They asked Peter and the other apostles, {\cf2\super [41]} “Brothers, what should we do?”


And the Spirit himself joins with our spirits to say we are God’s children.


Not only the world, but we also have been waiting with pain inside us. We have the Spirit {\cf2\super [67]} as the first part of God’s promise. So we are waiting for God to finish making us his own children. I mean we are waiting for our bodies to be made free.


Also, the Spirit {\cf2\super [68]} helps us. We are very weak, but the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We don’t know how to pray like we should. But the Spirit himself speaks to God for us. The Spirit begs God for us. The Spirit speaks to God with deep feelings that words cannot explain.


They are the people of Israel. {\cf2\super [73]} Those people (the Jews) are God’s chosen children. Those people have the glory of God and the agreements that God made between himself and his people. God gave them the law \{of Moses\} and the \{temple\} worship. And God gave his promises to those people (the Jews).


We did not receive the spirit of the world. But we received the Spirit that is from God. We received this Spirit so that we can know the things that God has given us.


You are very patient with any person who comes to you and tells you things about Jesus that are different from the things we told you. You are very willing to accept a spirit or a gospel that is different from the Spirit {\cf2\super [31]} and gospel {\cf2\super [32]} that you received from us. \{So you should be patient with me.\}


We have freedom now. Christ made us free. So stand strong. Don’t change and go back into the slavery \{of law\}.


And before the world was made, God decided to make us his own children through Jesus Christ. That was what God wanted to do. That pleased him.


The Spirit {\cf2\super [4]} God gave us does not make us afraid. He is our source of power and love and self control.


Jesus became like those people and died so that he could free them. They were like slaves all their lives because of their fear of death.


You believe there is one God. Good! But the demons {\cf2\super [9]} believe, too! And they shake with fear.


Where \{God’s\} love is, there is no fear. Why? Because God’s perfect love takes away fear. It is \{God’s\} punishment that makes a person fear. So \{God’s\} love is not made perfect in the person who has fear.
