Romans 11:17 - Easy To Read Version

17 \{It is like\} some of the branches from an olive tree have been broken off, and the branch of a wild olive tree has been joined to that first tree. You non-Jews are the same as that wild branch, and you now share the strength and life of the first tree (the Jews).

But I am like a green olive tree\par growing in God’s temple.\par I will trust God’s true love\par forever and ever.\par


The vines will become dry. And the branches will break off. Women will use those branches for firewood.


But a tenth of the people will be allowed to stay in the land. These people will return \{to the Lord\} even though they were to be destroyed. These people will be like an oak tree. When the tree is chopped down, a stump is left. This stump (the people remaining) is a very special seed.


The Lord gave you a name.\par He called you,\par ‘A green olive tree,\par beautiful to look at.’\par But with a strong storm,\par the Lord will set that tree on fire,\par and its branches will be burned up.\par


When the men saw this, they began to fear and respect the Lord. The men offered a sacrifice {\cf2\super [7]} and made special promises to the Lord.


There are two olive trees by the bowl, one on the right side and one on the left side. \{These trees produce the oil for the lamps.\}”


“So I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you. God’s kingdom will be given to people that do the things God wants in his kingdom.


\{Jesus said,\} “I am the true vine; my Father is the gardener.


He cuts off every branch {\cf2\super [217]} of mine that does not make fruit. {\cf2\super [218]} And he trims and cleans every branch that makes fruit, so that it will make even more fruit.


If a person does not continue in me, then he is like a branch that is thrown away. That branch dies. People pick up dead branches, throw them into the fire, and burn them.


This promise is for you. It is also for your children and for the people that are far away. It is for every person that the Lord our God calls to himself.”


It is not natural for a wild branch to become part of a good tree. But you non-Jews are like a branch cut from a wild olive tree. And you were joined to a good olive tree. But those Jews are like a branch that grew from the good tree. So surely they can be joined to their own tree again.


We Jews were not born as non-Jews and sinners. We were born as Jews.


This is that secret truth: that the non-Jews will get the things God has for his people, the same as the Jews. The non-Jews are together with the Jews in the same body. And they share together in the promise that God made in Christ Jesus. The non-Jews have all these things because of the Good News. {\cf2\super [23]}


It is a land with wheat and barley, grape vines, fig trees, and pomegranates. [51] It is a land with olive oil and honey.


You were spiritually dead because of your sins and because you were not free from the power of your sinful self. But God made you alive with Christ. And God forgave all our sins.


These two witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.
