Elijah was a prophet from the town of Tishbe in Gilead. Elijah said to King Ahab, “I serve the Lord God of Israel. By his power, I promise that no dew or rain will fall during the next few years. The rain will fall only if I command it to fall.”


But I am like a green olive tree\par growing in God’s temple.\par I will trust God’s true love\par forever and ever.\par


But I will not treat the people of Israel the same as the Egyptian people. There will not be any flies in Goshen, where my people live. In this way you will know that I, the Lord, am in this land.


Why? Because your husband {\cf2\super [429]} \par is the One (God) who made you.\par His name is the Lord All-Powerful.\par He is the Protector {\cf2\super [430]} of Israel.\par He is the Holy One of Israel.\par And he will be called\par the God of all the earth!\par


The Lord gave you a name.\par He called you,\par ‘A green olive tree,\par beautiful to look at.’\par But with a strong storm,\par the Lord will set that tree on fire,\par and its branches will be burned up.\par

“No person takes a light and puts it under a bowl or hides it. Instead, a person puts the light on a lamp table so that the people that come in can see.


So be ready all the time. Pray that you will be strong enough to continue safely through all these things that will happen. And pray that you will be able to stand before the Son of Man. {\cf2\super [336]} ”


\{It is like\} some of the branches from an olive tree have been broken off, and the branch of a wild olive tree has been joined to that first tree. You non-Jews are the same as that wild branch, and you now share the strength and life of the first tree (the Jews).
