Again I saw that many people are treated badly. I saw their tears. And I saw that there was no one to comfort those sad people. I saw cruel people had all the power. And I saw that there was no one to comfort the people they hurt.


So, this is what the Lord All-Powerful says\par about the prophets:\par “I will punish those prophets.\par The punishment will be\par like eating poisoned food and water.\par The prophets started a spiritual sickness.\par And that sickness spread through\par the whole country.\par So I will punish those prophets.\par That sickness came from the prophets\par in Jerusalem.”\par


“Why are we just sitting here?\par Come, let’s run to the strong cities.\par If the Lord our God is going to make us die,\par then let’s die there.\par We have sinned against the Lord,\par so God gave us poisoned water to drink.\par


So the Lord All-Powerful,\par the God of Israel, says,\par “I will soon make the people of Judah\par eat bitter food.\par I will make them drink poisoned water.\par


She cries bitterly in the night.\par Her tears are on her cheeks.\par She has no one to comfort her.\par Many nations were friendly to her.\par But none of them comforts her now.\par All of her friends turned their backs on her.\par Her friends became her enemies.\par


Jerusalem’s skirts became dirty.\par She didn’t think about the things\par that would happen to her.\par Her fall was amazing.\par She had no person to comfort her.\par She says,\par “Lord, see how I am hurt!\par See how my enemy thinks he is so great!”\par


At Golgotha, the soldiers gave Jesus wine to drink. This wine was mixed with gall. {\cf2\super [430]} Jesus tasted the wine but refused to drink it.


Quickly one of the people ran and got a sponge. That person filled the sponge with vinegar and tied the sponge to a stick. Then he used the stick to give the sponge to Jesus to drink from it.


At Golgotha the soldiers tried to give Jesus wine to drink. This wine was mixed with myrrh. {\cf2\super [225]} But Jesus refused to drink it.


One man there ran and got a sponge. The man filled the sponge with vinegar and tied the sponge to a stick. Then he used the stick to give the sponge to Jesus to drink from it. The man said, “We should wait now and see if Elijah will come to take him down from the cross.”


Even the soldiers laughed at Jesus and teased him. They came to Jesus and offered him some wine.


Be sure that there is no man, woman, family or family group here today that turns away from the Lord our God. No person should go and serve the gods of the other nations. People who do that are like a plant that grows bitter and poisonous fruit.
