Job, why won’t you understand?\par Why can’t you see the truth?\par


People are saying hateful things about me.\par People are attacking me for no reason.\par


Powerful leaders attacked me for no reason.\par But I fear and respect only your law.\par


If that happens, my enemy will say\par “I beat him!”\par My enemy would be happy\par if he defeated me.\par


My God, I trust you,\par and I will not be disappointed.\par My enemies will not laugh at me.\par


But when I made a mistake, {\cf2\super [218]} \par those people laughed at me.\par Those people were not really friends.\par I didn’t even know them.\par But they surrounded me and attacked me.\par


If I say anything,\par then my enemies will laugh at me.\par They will see I am sick\par and say that I am being punished\par for doing wrong.\par


I know I am guilty of doing wrong things.\par I cannot forget my pain.\par


My enemies are alive and healthy.\par And they have told many, many lies.\par


My enemies do bad things to me,\par and I did only good things to them.\par I tried to do only good things,\par but those people turned against me.\par


I have more enemies\par than the hairs on my head.\par They hate me for no reason.\par They try hard to destroy me.\par My enemies tell lies about me.\par They lied and said I stole things.\par And then they forced me to pay\par for things I did not steal.\par


God, you know I did nothing wrong.\par I can’t hide my sins from you.\par


A person who hides the truth causes trouble. A person who speaks openly makes peace. {\cf2\super [12]}


He winks his eye and makes signs with his hands and feet to trick people.


Those people were my enemies\par for no good reason,\par but they hunted me like a bird.\par


But this happened so that what is written in their law would be true: ‘They hated me for no reason.’ {\cf2\super [219]}
