No person can force Leviathan\par to open his jaws.\par The teeth in his mouth scare people.\par


But the Lord says:\par “Bad people stole from the poor people.\par They took things from helpless people.\par But now I will stand and defend those weary (tired) people.”\par


Praise the Lord!\par The Lord did not let our enemies\par catch us and kill us.\par


Bad people have destroyed my people.\par And those bad people don’t know God.\par Bad people have plenty of food to eat. {\cf2\super [76]} \par And they don’t even worship the Lord.\par


Lord, get up! {\cf2\super [10]} \par My God, come rescue me!\par \{You are very strong!\}\par If you hit my bad enemies on the cheek,\par you will break all their teeth.\par


You make foolish plans\par and your tongue is as dangerous\par as a sharp razor.\par You are always lying\par and trying to cheat people!\par


My life is in danger.\par My enemies are all around me.\par They are like man-eating lions,\par with teeth as sharp as spears\par and arrows,\par and tongues as sharp as a sword.\par


God, you are high above the heavens.\par Your glory covers the earth.\par


Lord, those people are like lions.\par So Lord, break their teeth.\par


If a person speaks words without thinking, then those words can hurt like a sword. But a wise person is careful with the things he says. His words can heal those hurts.


These two things will make you poor—hurting poor people to make yourself rich, and giving gifts to rich people.


If a ruler makes trouble for poor people, he is like a hard rain that destroys the crops.


Some people want to take everything they can get. All they say is, “Give me, give me, give me.” There are three things that are never satisfied—really four things that never have enough:


Again I saw that many people are treated badly. I saw their tears. And I saw that there was no one to comfort those sad people. I saw cruel people had all the power. And I saw that there was no one to comfort the people they hurt.


Those lawmakers are not fair to the poor people. They take away the poor people’s rights. They allow people to steal from widows and orphans. {\cf2\super [112]}


The Lord will give his judgment against the elders {\cf2\super [32]} and leaders for the things they have done.


What gives you the right to hurt my people? What gives you the right to push the faces of the poor people into the dirt?” My Master, the Lord All-Powerful said these things.


That foolish person uses evil like a tool. He plans ways to take everything from poor people. That foolish person tells lies about the poor people. And his lies keep the poor people from being judged fairly.


“‘Look! In Jerusalem, every ruler of Israel made himself strong so he could kill other people.


You eat the fat sheep and use their wool to make clothes for yourselves. You kill the fat sheep, but you don’t feed the flock.


They pushed those poor peoples’ faces into the ground and walked on them. They stopped listening to suffering people. Fathers and sons have sexual relations with the same woman. They have ruined my holy name.


Listen to me, you cows of Bashan {\cf2\super [48]} on Samaria’s mountain. You hurt poor people. You crush those poor people. You tell your husbands, {\cf2\super [49]} “Bring us something to drink!”


Listen to me!\par You people walk on helpless people.\par You are trying to destroy the poor people of this country.\par


You used Moses’ walking stick\par to stop the enemy soldiers.\par Those soldiers came like a powerful storm\par to fight against us.\par They thought they could defeat us easily,\par like robbing a poor man in secret.\par


Jerusalem’s leaders are like roaring lions. Her judges {\cf2\super [19]} are like hungry wolves that come in the evening \{to attack the sheep\}—and in the morning nothing is left.


“It will be bad for you teachers of the law and Pharisees. {\cf2\super [333]} You are hypocrites. {\cf2\super [334]} You close the way for people to enter the kingdom of heaven. You yourselves don’t enter, and you stop the people that are trying to enter.


Their hair was like women’s hair. Their teeth were like lions’ teeth.
