The Lord will make you sleepy.\par The Lord will close your eyes.\par (The prophets are your eyes.)\par The Lord will cover your heads.\par (The prophets are your heads.)\par


They tell the prophets, “Don’t see dreams {\cf2\super [278]} about things we should do! Don’t tell us the truth! Say nice things to us and make us feel good! See only good things for us!


“Son of man, {\cf2\super [152]} look toward the Negev, the southern part of Judah. Speak against the Negev Forest. {\cf2\super [153]}


“Son of man, {\cf2\super [154]} look toward Jerusalem and speak against their holy places. Speak against the land of Israel for me.


“But you made the Nazirites drink wine. You told the prophets not to prophesy.


But don’t prophesy {\cf2\super [94]} any more here at Bethel! This is Jeroboam’s holy place. This is Israel’s temple!”


So listen to the Lord’s message. You tell me, ‘Don’t prophesy {\cf2\super [95]} against Israel. Don’t preach against Isaac’s family.’


That is why it is like night for you.\par That is why you don’t have visions. {\cf2\super [38]} \par You can’t see what will happen\par in the future,\par so it is like darkness to you.\par The sun has gone down on the prophets.\par They can’t see what will happen\par in the future,\par so it is like darkness to them.\par

But we must make them afraid to talk to people about this man (Jesus). Then this problem will not spread among the people.”


He said, “We told you never to teach about this man (Jesus)! But look what you have done! You have filled Jerusalem with your teaching. You are trying to make us responsible (guilty) for the death of this man (Jesus).”


They called the apostles {\cf2\super [104]} in again. They beat the apostles and told them not to talk to people about Jesus again. Then they let the apostles go free.


\{Then Stephen said,\} “You stubborn Jewish leaders! You have not given your hearts to God! You won’t listen to him! You are always against what the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [147]} is trying to tell you. Your ancestors did this, and you are just like them!
