Matthew 27:19 - Easy To Read Version

19 Pilate said these things while he was sitting in the place for judging. While he was sitting there, his wife sent a message to him. The message said, “Don’t do anything with that man (Jesus). He is not guilty. And today I had a dream about him, and it troubled me very much.”

The angel of God spoke to me in that dream. The angel said, ‘Jacob!’


That night God went to Laban in a dream. God said, “Be careful! Be careful of every word you say to Jacob.”


I have the power to really hurt you. But last night your father’s God came to me in a dream. He warned me not to hurt you in any way.


If a person is stubborn and becomes more angry every time people tell him that he is doing wrong, then that person will be destroyed. There is no hope.


He will suffer many things in his soul, but he will see the good things that happen. He will be satisfied with the things he learns. My Good Servant will make many people not guilty; he will carry away their guilt.


City of Zion, rejoice!\par People of Jerusalem, shout with joy!\par Look, your king is coming to you!\par He is the good king that won the victory.\par But he is humble.\par He is riding on a donkey,\par on a young donkey\par born from a work animal.\par

But after Joseph thought about this, an angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, son of David, {\cf2\super [11]} don’t be afraid to accept Mary to be your wife. The baby that is in her is from the Holy Spirit. {\cf2\super [12]}


After Herod {\cf2\super [31]} died, an angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream. This happened while Joseph was in Egypt.


But Joseph heard that Archelaus was now king in Judea. Archelaus became king when his father Herod died. So Joseph was afraid to go there. Joseph was warned in a dream. So Joseph left there and went to the area of Galilee.


Pilate knew that the people gave Jesus to him because the people were jealous.


Pilate saw that he could do nothing to make the people change. And he saw that the people were becoming upset. So Pilate took some water and washed his hands {\cf2\super [429]} so that all the people could see. Then Pilate said, “I am not guilty of this man’s death. You are the ones that are doing it!”


Judas said, “I sinned. I gave you an innocent man to be killed.”


You and I are guilty; we should be killed because we did wrong. But this man (Jesus) has done nothing wrong!”


The army officer {\cf2\super [383]} there saw what happened. He praised God, saying, “I know this man was a good man!”


Pilate heard what these Jews said. So he brought Jesus out to the place called “The Stone Pavement.” (In the Jewish language {\cf2\super [241]} the name is “Gabbatha.”) Pilate sat down on the judge’s seat there.


Herod {\cf2\super [241]} decided a day to meet with them. On that day Herod was wearing a beautiful royal robe. He sat on his throne and made a speech to the people.


Gallio became the governor of the country of Achaia. At that time, some of the Jews came together against Paul. They took Paul to the court.


Then Gallio made them leave the court.


Then they all grabbed Sosthenes. (Sosthenes was \{now\} the leader of the synagogue. {\cf2\super [367]})They beat Sosthenes before the court. But this did not bother Gallio.


Paul said, “I am standing at Caesar’s {\cf2\super [476]} judgment seat now. This is where I should be judged! I have done nothing wrong to the Jews; you know this is true.


So these Jews came here \{to Caesarea\} for the trial. And I did not waste time. The next day I sat on the judgment seat and commanded that the man (Paul) be brought in.


Festus stayed in Jerusalem another eight or ten days. Then he went back to Caesarea. The next day Festus told the soldiers to bring Paul before him. Festus was seated on the judgment seat.

My dear children, I write this letter to you so that you will not sin. But if any person sins, we have Jesus Christ to help us. He is the righteous (good) One. Jesus defends us before God the Father.
