Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Go back to your father’s house. Stay there and don’t marry until my young son Shelah grows up.” Judah was afraid that Shelah would also be killed like his brothers. Tamar went back to her father’s home.


Then Judah said to Er’s brother Onan, “Go and sleep with your dead brother’s wife. [228] Become like a husband to her. If children are born, then they will belong to your brother Er.”


The Pharisees sent some men to Jesus \{to trick him\}. They sent some of their own followers and some men from the group called Herodians. {\cf2\super [306]} These men said, “Teacher, we know that you are an honest man. We know that you teach the truth about God’s way. You are not afraid of what other people think about you. All men are the same to you.


There were seven brothers among us. The first one married but died. He had no children. So his brother married the woman.


The Pharisee said, “Teacher, which command in the law is the most important?”
