He said, ‘Tell Joseph that I beg him to please forgive his brothers for the bad things they did to him.’ So now Joseph, we beg you, please forgive us for the bad things we did to you. We are the servants of God, the God of your father.


Those people are dividing my clothes\par among themselves.\par They are throwing lots {\cf2\super [131]} for my robe.\par


For this reason, I will reward him among my people. He will have a share of all things with the people that are strong. \{I will do this for him\} because he gave his life for the people and died.


Then Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth. I praise you because you have hidden these things from the wise and smart people. But you have shown these things to people that are like little children.


Yes, Father, you did this because this is what you really wanted to do.


But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for those people that do bad things to you.


The soldiers nailed Jesus to a cross. Then the soldiers divided Jesus’ clothes among themselves. They gambled with dice to decide which clothes each soldier would get.


“Father, if it is what you want, then let me not have this cup {\cf2\super [358]} \{of suffering\}. But do what you want, not what I want.”


I pray for them now. I am not praying for the people in the world. But I am praying for these men you gave me, because they are yours.


Jesus answered, “The only power you have over me is the power given to you by God. So the man who gave me to you is guilty of a greater sin.”


But Paul shouted, “Don’t hurt yourself! We are all here!”


“My brothers, I know you did those things to Jesus because you did not understand what you were doing. Your leaders also did not understand.


Say only good things to those people that do bad things to you. Say good things to them and don’t curse them.


None of the rulers of this world understood this wisdom. If they had understood it, then they would not have killed our glorious Lord on a cross.


We work hard with our own hands \{to feed ourselves\}. People curse us, but we speak a blessing for them. People persecute {\cf2\super [26]} us, and we accept it.


In the past I spoke against Christ and persecuted him and did things to hurt him. But God gave me mercy because I did not know what I was doing. I did those things when I did not believe.


Don’t do wrong to a person to pay him back for doing wrong to you. Or don’t say something bad to a person to pay him back for saying something bad to you. But \{ask God to\} bless that person. Do this, because you yourselves were called to receive a blessing.
