So the king asked his advisers what he should do. {They gave him their advice.} So Jeroboam made two golden calves. King Jeroboam said to the people, “You should not go to Jerusalem to worship. Israel, these are the gods that brought you out of Egypt.” [155]


When any of these things happen, if even one man is sorry {for his sins} and spreads his hands in prayer toward this temple,


and then a prayer or begging is made by any of your people of Israel—each person knowing his own trouble and pain—and if that person spreads his hands and arms out while looking at this temple, {\cf2\super [108]}


When I heard about this, I tore my robe and my coat \{to show I was upset\}. I pulled hair from my head and beard. I sat down, shocked and upset.


God says,\par “Surely those evil people know the truth!\par But they don’t pray to me.\par Evil people are as ready to destroy\par my people as they are to eat food.”\par


\{God says,\} “Why should I continue to punish you people? \{I punished you, but you did not change.\} You continue to rebel against me. Now every head and every heart is sick.


Those people say that good things are bad, and bad things are good. Those people think light is darkness, and darkness is light. Those people think sour is sweet, and sweet is sour.


(The head means the elders {\cf2\super [110]} and important leaders. The tail means the prophets that speak lies.)


But if the bright spot did not spread on the skin, but is faded, it is the swelling from the burn. The priest must announce the person clean. It is only the scar from the burn.


A priest must look at the infection. If the infection seems to be deeper than the skin, and if the hair around it is thin and yellow, then the priest must announce that the person is unclean. [170] It is a bad skin disease. [171]


The judges in Jerusalem accept bribes\par to help them decide who wins in court.\par The priests in Jerusalem must be paid\par before they will teach the people.\par People must pay the prophets\par before they will look into the future.\par And then those leaders expect the Lord\par to help them. They say,\par “The Lord lives here with us.\par So nothing bad will happen to us.”\par


If you look at people and want to help them, you will be full of light (goodness). But if you look at people in a selfish way, you will be full of darkness (evil). And if the only light you have is really darkness, then you have the worst kind of darkness. {\cf2\super [80]}
