28 Zelah, Haeleph, the Jebusite city (Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath. There were 14 cities and the fields around them. The family group of Benjamin got all these areas.

They buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the area of Benjamin. They buried them in one of the tunnels in the grave of Saul’s father Kish. God listened to the prayers of the people in that land because they did everything the king commanded.


Heled son of Baanah from Netophah; Ithai son of Ribai from Gibeah of Benjamin;


The king and his men went to fight against the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. The Jebusites said to David, “You can’t come into {our city}. [23] Even our blind and crippled people can stop you.” (They said this because they thought that David would not be able to enter into their city.


That day David said to his men, “If you want to defeat the Jebusites, go up through the water shaft [25] and reach those ‘crippled and blind’ enemies.”


All these men were leaders of their families. They were listed in their family histories as leaders. They lived in Jerusalem.


The army will cross the river at the “Crossing” (Maabarah). The army will sleep at Geba. {\cf2\super [127]} Ramah {\cf2\super [128]} will be afraid. The people at Gibeah of Saul {\cf2\super [129]} will run away.


Run for your lives, people of Benjamin!\par Run away from the city of Jerusalem!\par Blow the war trumpet in the city of Tekoa!\par Put up the warning flag\par in the city of Beth Hakkerem!\par Do these things because disaster is coming from the north. {\cf2\super [37]} \par Terrible destruction is coming to you.\par


Israel, you have sinned since the time of Gibeah. {\cf2\super [107]} (And those people have continued sinning there.) War truly will catch those evil people at Gibeah.


The families in Benjamin’s family group were:


A large family will get much land, and a small family will get less land. The land that they get will be equal to the number of people who were counted.


Each of your families will get part of the land. You will throw lots [379] to decide which family gets each part of the country. Large families will get large parts of the land. Small families will get small parts of the land. The lots will show which family gets which part of the land. Each family group will get its part of the land.


The army of Judah was not able to force out the Jebusite people living in Jerusalem. So today there are still Jebusite people living among the people of Judah in Jerusalem.


Then the border went through the Valley of Ben Hinnom beside the southern side of the Jebusite city. (That Jebusite city was called Jerusalem.) At that place the border went to the top of the hill on the west side of Hinnom Valley. This was at the northern end of Rephaim Valley.


Then the border went down to the bottom of the hill near the valley of Ben Hinnom, north of Rephaim Valley. The border continued down Hinnom Valley just south of the Jebusite city. Then the border went on to En Rogel.


Then Joshua gave all the families in the family group of Simeon their share of the land. The land they got was inside the area that belonged to Judah.


The family group of Benjamin could not force the Jebusite people to leave Jerusalem. So even today, [12] the Jebusite people live with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem.


But the Levite [147] man did not want to stay another night. He took his two donkeys and his woman servant. [148] He traveled as far as the city of Jebus. (Jebus is another name for Jerusalem).


Saul also went to his home in Gibeah. God touched the hearts of brave men, and these brave men began to follow Saul.
