John 19:38 - Easy To Read Version

38 Later, a man named Joseph from Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. (Joseph was a follower of Jesus. But he did not tell people, because he was afraid of the Jewish leaders.) Pilate said that Joseph could take the body of Jesus. So Joseph came and took Jesus’ body away.

Fear is like a trap. But if you trust in the Lord, you will be safe.


But many people believed in Jesus. Even many of the Jewish leaders believed in Jesus. But they were afraid of the Pharisees. {\cf2\super [205]} So they did not say openly that they believed. They were afraid that they would be put out of the synagogue. {\cf2\super [206]}


But none of the people were brave enough to talk about Jesus openly. The people were afraid of the Jewish leaders.


His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. The Jewish leaders had already decided that they would punish any person that said Jesus was the Christ. {\cf2\super [158]} They would put those people out of the synagogue. {\cf2\super [159]}


These Jews did all the bad things that the Scriptures {\cf2\super [270]} said would happen to Jesus. Then they took Jesus down from the cross and put him in a grave.


I am still in prison, but most of the believers feel better about it now. And so they are much braver about telling people the message {\cf2\super [7]} \{about Christ\}.
