Evil people are spared\par when disaster comes.\par They survive when God shows his anger.\par


Those people told God,\par ‘Leave us alone!\par God All-Powerful can’t do anything to us!’\par


Does your living right help God? No!\par Does God All-Powerful gain anything\par if you follow him? No!\par


That person should have enjoyed\par \{talking with\} God All-Powerful.\par That person should have prayed to God\par all the time.\par


And Job, you ask God,\par ‘What will a person gain\par if he tries to please God?\par What good will it do me\par if I don’t sin?’\par


Enjoy serving the Lord,\par and he will give you what you want.\par


You see a thief,\par and you run to join him.\par You jump into bed with people\par doing the sin of adultery.\par


So why should I make my heart pure?\par Why should I make my hands clean?\par


Now those people say, “We stop eating food to show honor to you. Why don’t you see us? We hurt our bodies to show honor to you. Why don’t you notice us?”


You said, “It is useless to worship the Lord. We did the things the Lord told us— but we didn’t gain anything. We were sad \{for our sins\} like people crying at a funeral. But it didn’t help.
