My face is red from crying.\par There are dark rings around my eyes.\par


The darkest night is like morning\par for those evil people.\par Yes, they know the terrors of that\par deadly darkness very well!\par


Workers carry lights into the caves.\par They search deep into the caves.\par They look for rocks in the deep darkness.\par


I wish that day had stayed dark.\par I wish God would forget that day.\par I wish light had not shined on that day.\par


Let the darkness keep that night.\par Leave that night off the calendar.\par Don’t put that night in any of the months.\par


There is no place dark enough\par for evil people to hide from God.\par


Job, have you ever seen the gates\par leading to the world of the dead?\par Have you ever seen the gates\par leading to that dark place of death?\par


Some of God’s people were prisoners,\par locked behind bars in dark, dark prisons.\par


God took them out of their dark prisons.\par God broke the ropes they were tied with.\par


Even if I walk through a valley\par as dark as the grave, {\cf2\super [140]} \par I will not be afraid of any danger.\par Why? Because you are with me, Lord.\par Your rod and staff {\cf2\super [141]} comfort me.\par


But, God, you crushed us in this place\par where jackals {\cf2\super [268]} live.\par You left us in this place\par as dark as death.\par


Those people lived in darkness. But they will see a great light. Those people lived in a place as dark as the place of death. But the “Great Light” willl shine on them.


Honor the Lord your God.\par Praise him or he will bring darkness.\par Praise him before you fall on the dark hills.\par You people of Judah are hoping for light.\par But the Lord will turn the light into thick darkness.\par The Lord will change the light into a very thick darkness.\par


Your ancestors did not say,\par ‘The Lord brought us from Egypt.\par The Lord led us through the desert.\par The Lord led us through a dry\par and rocky land.\par The Lord led us through a dark\par and dangerous land.\par No people live there.\par People don’t even travel through\par that land.\par But the Lord led us through that land.\par So where is the Lord now?’\par


So the people in the land will cry\par for the dead people.\par The sky will grow dark.\par I have spoken and will not change.\par I have made a decision\par and I will not change my mind.”\par


That day is near!\par Yes, the Lord’s day for judging is near.\par It will be a cloudy day,\par It will be the time for judging the nations!\par


If a shepherd is with his sheep when they begin to wander away, then he will go searching for them. In the same way I will search for my sheep. I will save my sheep. I will bring them back from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.


It will be a dark, gloomy day.\par It will be a dark and cloudy day.\par At sunrise, you will see the army\par spread over the mountains.\par It will be a great and powerful army.\par There has never been anything\par like it before.\par And there will never be anything\par like it again.\par


I will change your holidays\par into days of crying for the dead.\par All your songs will be songs of sadness\par for dead people.\par I will put clothes of sadness on everyone.\par I will make every head bald. {\cf2\super [104]} \par I will make it like heavy crying\par for an only son that has died.\par It will be a very bitter end.”\par


Those people live in darkness (sin),\par but they have seen a great light;\par the light has come for those people\par that live in the land that is dark\par like a grave.”\par \i (Isaiah 9:1-2)\i0 \par


God will help the people\par that live in darkness,\par in the fear of death.\par He will lead us in the way\par that goes toward peace.”\par


You came near and stood at the bottom of the mountain. The mountain burned with fire that reached up to the sky. There were thick black clouds and darkness.


You have come to a new place. It is not a place like the mountain that the people of Israel {\cf2\super [161]} came to. You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire. You have not come to a place with darkness, sadness, and storms.
