Why did you run away without telling me? If you had told me, I would have given you a party. There would have been singing and dancing with music.


“My friends laugh at me now.\par They say,\par ‘He prayed to God,\par and he got his answer.\par \{That is why all these bad things\par happened to him.\}’\par


People stand around meand laugh at me.I watch them as they teaseand insult me.


Those young men hate me,\par they stand away from me,\par they think they are better than me.\par They even spit in my face!\par


“Now those men’s sons\par sing songs about me to make fun of me.\par My name has become a bad word to them.\par


We are one of the funny stories people tell.\par Even people without a nation of their own\par laugh at us and shake their heads.\par


I am covered with shame.\par All day long I see my shame.\par


I wear rough cloth to show my sadness,\par and people tell jokes about me.\par


You party with your wine, harps, {\cf2\super [52]} drums, flutes, and other musical instruments. And you don’t see the things the Lord has done. The Lord’s hands have made many, many things—but you don’t notice those things. So, it will be very bad for you people.


The Lord answered Moses, “If her father spit in her face, then she would be shamed for seven days. So put her outside the camp for seven days. After that time, she {will become well}. Then she can come back into the camp.”
