The king’s family and the people\par of Dibon {\cf2\super [158]} \par are going to the places of worship {\cf2\super [159]} to cry.\par The people of Moab are crying\par for Nebo {\cf2\super [160]} and Medeba. {\cf2\super [161]} \par The people shaved their heads and beards\par \{to show they are sad\}.\par


My heart cries with sorrow for Moab.\par People are running for safety.\par They run far away to Zoar.\par They run to Eglath Shelishiyah.\par The people are crying as they go up\par the mountain road to Luhith.\par The people are crying very loudly\par as they walk on the road to Horonaim.\par


Crying can be heard everywhere in Moab.\par The people are crying\par far away in the city Eglaim.\par And the people are crying\par in the city Beer Elim. {\cf2\super [163]} \par


So I say,\par “Don’t look at me!\par Let me cry!\par Don’t rush to comfort me about\par the destruction of Jerusalem.”\par


Let that man be the same as\par the cities that the Lord destroyed. {\cf2\super [166]} \par The Lord did not have any pity\par on those cities.\par Let that man hear shouts of war\par in the morning.\par And let him hear battle cries\par at noontime.\par


The Lord says:\par “Look, \{the enemy soldiers\par are meeting together\} in the north. {\cf2\super [372]} \par They will come like a fast river\par spilling over its banks.\par They will cover the whole country\par like a flood.\par They will cover the towns\par and the people living in them.\par Everyone living in that country\par will cry for help.\par


“The people of the towns of Heshbon and Elealeh are crying. Their cry is heard even as far away as the town of Jahaz. Their cry is heard from the town of Zoar, as far away as the towns of Horonaim and Eglath Shelishiyah. Even the waters of Nimrim are dried.


Moab will be destroyed.\par Her little children will cry for help.\par


Moab’s people go up the path to Luhith.\par They are crying bitterly as they go.\par On the road down to the town of Horonaim,\par Cries of pain and suffering can be heard.\par


“We can hear people crying in Babylon.\par We hear the sound of people destroying\par things in the land of Babylon.\par
