15 The Lord, the God of Israel, said these things to me: “Jeremiah, take this cup of wine from my hand. It is the wine of my anger. I am sending you to different nations. Make all those nations drink from this cup.

Let the sinner see his own punishment.\par Let him feel the anger\par of God All-Powerful.\par


He will make hot coals and burning\par sulphur fall like rain on those bad people.\par Those bad people will get nothing but\par a hot, burning wind. {\cf2\super [63]} \par


You have given your people many troubles.\par We are like drunk people\par staggering and falling down.\par


\{God is ready to punish evil people.\}\par The Lord has a cup in his hand.\par That cup is filled with poisoned wine.\par He will pour this wine (punishment),\par and wicked people will drink it\par to the last drop.\par


I will always tell people about these things.\par I will sing praise to the God of Israel.\par


That is the thing I plan to do for my people. And I will use my arm (power) to punish all nations.”


The Lord is angry at all the nations and their armies. The Lord will destroy them all. He will cause them all to be killed.


Wake up! Wake up!\par Jerusalem, get up!\par The Lord was very angry at you.\par So you were punished.\par \{This punishment was like\} a cup of poison you had to drink.\par And you drank it.\par


Your God and Master, the Lord, will fight for his people. He says to you, “Look, I am taking this ‘cup of poison’ (punishment) away from you. I am taking my anger away from you. You will not be punished by my anger any more.


I will now use my anger to punish the people that hurt you. Those people tried to kill you. They told you, ‘Bow down before us, and we will walk on you!’ They forced you to bow down before them. And then they walked on your back like dirt. You were like a road for them to walk on.”


“Before I made you in your mother’s body,\par I knew you.\par Before you were born,\par I chose you for a special work.\par I chose you to be a prophet to the nations.”\par


“Jeremiah, get a scroll {\cf2\super [300]} and write on it all the messages I have spoken to you. I have spoken to you about the nations of Israel and Judah and all the nations. Write all the words that I have spoken to you from the time that Josiah was king, until now.


Nebuchadnezzar will come here and attack Egypt. He will bring death to those that are to die. He will bring captivity to those that are to be taken captive. And he will bring the sword to those that are to be killed with a sword.


Baruch, you are looking for great things for yourself. But don’t look for those things. Don’t look for them, because I will make terrible things happen to all the people.’ The Lord said these things. ‘You will have to go many places. But I will let you escape alive wherever you go.’”


These messages came to Jeremiah the prophet. These messages are about different nations.


“Moab thought he was more important\par than the Lord.\par So punish Moab until he staggers\par like a drunk person.\par Moab will fall and roll around in his vomit.\par People will make fun of Moab.\par


This is what the Lord says, “Some people don’t deserve to be punished—but they suffer. But Edom, you deserve to be punished—so you will really be punished. You will not escape the punishment you deserve. You will be punished.”


Babylon was like a golden cup\par in the Lord’s hand.\par Babylon made the whole world drunk.\par The nations drank Babylon’s wine.\par So they went crazy.\par


The Lord my Master says these things:


You will stagger like a drunk person.\par You will become very dizzy.\par That is the cup of destruction\par and devastation.\par It is like the cup (punishment)\par that your sister drank.\par


I will destroy Egypt. The cities will be in ruins for 40 years! I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations. I will make them strangers {\cf2\super [242]} in foreign lands.”


The Lord my Master says, “I swear (promise), I will let my strong feelings speak for me! I will let Edom and the other nations feel my anger. Those nations took my land for themselves. They really had a good time when they showed how much they hated this land. They took the land for themselves just so they could destroy it!”


“But that person will know the Lord’s anger. That anger will be like a cup of poison in the Lord’s right hand. That person will taste that anger and then he will fall to the ground like a drunk person.


That person will drink the wine of God’s anger. This wine is prepared with all its strength in the cup of God’s anger. That person will be tortured (hurt) with burning sulfur before the holy angels and the Lamb.


The angel swung his sickle over the earth. The angel gathered the earth’s grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s anger.
