24 “As surely as I live,” this message is from the Lord, “I will do this to you, Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah: Even if you were a signet ring {\cf2\super [180]} on my right hand, I would still pull you off.

Jehoiachin king of Judah went out to meet the king of Babylon. Jehoiachin’s mother, his officers, leaders, and officials also went with him. Then the king of Babylon captured Jehoiachin. This was during the eighth year of Nebuchadnezzar’s rule.


Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin to Babylon as a prisoner. Nebuchadnezzar also took the king’s mother, his wives, officers, and the leading men of the land. Nebuchadnezzar took them from Jerusalem to Babylon as prisoners.


Jehoiakim’s sons were Jehoiachin, his son, and Zedekiah, his son. [32]


Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he became king of Judah. He was king in Jerusalem for three months and ten days. He didn’t do the things the Lord wanted him to do. Jehoiachin sinned against the Lord.


Look, I have carved your name\par into my hand.\par I think about you all the time! {\cf2\super [416]} \par


Tell these things to the king and his wife,\par “Come down from your thrones.\par Your beautiful crowns have fallen from your heads.”\par


Coniah (Jehoiachin) is like a broken pot\par that some person threw away.\par He is like a pot that no person wants.\par Why will Jehoiachin and his children\par be thrown out?\par Why will they be thrown away\par into a foreign land?\par


This is what the Lord says about the palace where the king of Judah lives:


The Lord showed me these things: I saw two baskets of figs arranged in front of the temple {\cf2\super [196]} of the Lord. (I saw this vision after Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, took Jeconiah {\cf2\super [197]} as a prisoner. Jeconiah was the son of King Jehoiakim. Jeconiah and his important officials were taken away from Jerusalem. They were taken to Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar also took away all the carpenters and metal-workers of Judah.)


I will also bring Jehoiachin king of Judah back to this place. Jehoiachin is the son of Jehoiakim. And I will bring back all those people of Judah that Nebuchadnezzar forced to leave their homes and go to Babylon.’ This message is from the Lord. ‘So I will break the yoke that the king of Babylon put on the people of Judah!’”


(This letter was sent after King Jehoiachin, the queen mother, the officials and the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem, the carpenters, and the metal workers had been taken from Jerusalem.)


Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar appointed Zedekiah as king of Judah in the place of Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim. Zedekiah was a son of King Josiah.


The Lord All-Powerful is saying these things. Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, you are my servant. I have chosen you. And at that time, I will make you like a signet ring. {\cf2\super [13]} \{You will be the proof that I have done these things!\}”
