Let there be crying in their houses.\par Make them cry when you suddenly\par bring an enemy against them.\par Let all this happen because my enemies\par tried to trap me.\par They hid traps for me to step in.\par


But the people of that nation might change their hearts and lives. The people in that nation might stop doing evil things. Then I would change my mind. I would not follow my plans to bring disaster to that nation.


Now I have seen the prophets of Judah\par do those terrible things in Jerusalem.\par These prophets do the sin of adultery. {\cf2\super [187]} \par They listened to lies—and they obeyed\par those false teachings.\par They encourage wicked people\par to continue doing evil things.\par So the people did not stop sinning.\par They are like the people of Sodom {\cf2\super [188]} .\par Now Jerusalem is like Gomorrah {\cf2\super [189]} to me.”\par


You people change your lives! You must start doing good things! You must obey the Lord your God. If you do that, then the Lord will change his mind. The Lord will not do the bad things he told you about.


Oh, my sadness and worry is making\par my stomach hurt.\par I am bent over in pain.\par Oh, I am so scared.\par My heart is pounding inside me.\par I can’t keep quiet. Why?\par Because I have heard the trumpet blow.\par The trumpet is calling the army to war!\par


The sin of the daughter of my people {\cf2\super [28]} \par was very great.\par Their sin was greater than the sins\par of Sodom and Gomorrah. {\cf2\super [29]} \par Sodom and Gomorrah\par were destroyed suddenly.\par No human hand caused that destruction. {\cf2\super [30]} \par

So I will start a fire at the wall of Rabbah. {\cf2\super [28]} That fire will destroy the high towers of Rabbah. Troubles will come to them like a whirlwind {\cf2\super [29]} into their country.


So I will start a fire in Moab. And that fire will destroy the high towers of Kerioth. {\cf2\super [33]} There will be terrible shouting and the sounds of a trumpet, and Moab will die.


“I destroyed you like I destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. {\cf2\super [55]} And those cities were completely destroyed. You were like a burnt stick pulled from a fire. But still you didn’t come back to me \{for help\}.” The Lord said those things.


Jonah went to the center of the city and began preaching to the people. Jonah said, “After 40 days, Nineveh will be destroyed!”


Jonah complained to the Lord and said, “I knew this would happen! I was in my own country, and you told me to come here. At that time, I knew that you would forgive the people of this evil city. So I decided to run away to Tarshish. I knew that you are a kind God! I knew that you show mercy and don’t want to punish people! I knew that you are full of kindness! I knew that if these people stopped sinning, you would change your plans to destroy them.


It will be \{like a time of war when\} people hear horns and trumpets in the defense towers and protected cities.


So, as sure as I am alive, Moab and the people of Ammon will be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah. {\cf2\super [17]} I am the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel. And I promise those countries will be completely destroyed forever. Their land will be overgrown with weeds. Their land will be like the land covered with salt by the Dead Sea. The survivors of my people will take that land and all the things left in it.”


The people were doing these things even on the day when Lot left town. Then fire and sulphur rained down from the sky and killed them all.


“In the future, your descendants [193] and foreigners from faraway countries will see how the land has been ruined. They will see the diseases that the Lord has brought to it.


All the land will be useless—destroyed by burning sulfur and covered with salt. The land will have nothing planted in it. Nothing will be growing—not even weeds. The land will be destroyed like Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, the cities the Lord destroyed when he was very angry.


And God also punished the \{evil\} cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. {\cf2\super [7]} God burned those cities until there was nothing left but ashes. God made those cities be an example to show what will happen to people who are against God.
