Hezekiah sent Eliakim (Eliakim was in charge of the king’s house), Shebna (the secretary), and the elders of the priests to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz. They wore the rough cloth {that showed they were sad and upset}.


You will be like a large clay jar that breaks and becomes many, many small pieces. Those pieces are useless. You can’t use those pieces to get a hot coal from the fire or to get water from a pool in the ground.”


This is what the Lord said to me: “Jeremiah, go and buy a linen loincloth. {\cf2\super [103]} Then put it around your waist. Don’t let the loincloth get wet.”


Then some of the elders (leaders) stood up and spoke to all the people.


“The Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: ‘Take both copies of the deed—the sealed copy and the copy that was not sealed—and put them in a clay jar. Do this so that these deeds will last a long time.’


The people of Zion {\cf2\super [26]} were worth a lot.\par They were worth their weight in gold.\par But now the enemy treats those people\par like old clay jars.\par The enemy treats them\par like clay jars made by a potter.\par


“Son of man, {\cf2\super [34]} take a brick. Scratch a picture on it. Draw a picture of a city—the city Jerusalem.


The Lord said to Moses, “Bring to me 70 of the elders of Israel. These men are the leaders among the people. Bring them to the Meeting Tent. [157] Let them stand there with you.


Then the leading priests and the older Jewish leaders had a meeting at the palace where the high priest {\cf2\super [393]} lived. The high priest’s name was Caiaphas.


Early the next morning, all the leading priests and older leaders of the people decided to kill Jesus.


He came to us and borrowed Paul’s belt. Then Agabus used the belt to tie his own hands and feet. Agabus said, “The Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [418]} tells me, ‘This is how the Jews in Jerusalem will tie the man who wears this belt. {\cf2\super [419]} Then they will give him to the non-Jewish people.’”


We have this treasure \{from God\}. But we are only like clay jars that hold the treasure. This shows that this great power is from God, not from us.
