23 “I make this promise by my own power. And when I make a promise, that promise is true. The thing I promise will happen! And I promise that every person will bow before me (God). And every person will promise \{to follow me\}.

David made a promise to the Lord.\par David made a special promise\par to the Mighty God of Jacob.\par


But the king will be happy with his God.\par And the people who promised to obey him\par will praise God.\par Why? Because he defeated all those liars.\par


His holy right arm\par brought him victory again.\par


At that time, only a few of the archers, {\cf2\super [212]} the great soldiers of Kedar, will be left alive.” The Lord, the God of Israel, told me those things.


I did not speak in secret.\par I have spoken freely.\par I did not hide my words\par in a dark place of the world.\par I did not tell the people of Jacob\par to look for me in empty places.\par I am the Lord, and I speak the truth.\par I say things that are true.”\par


The Lord says,\par “Family of Jacob, listen to me!\par You people call yourself ‘Israel.’\par You are from Judah’s family.\par You use the Lord’s name to make promises.\par You praise the God of Israel.\par But you are not honest and sincere\par when you do these things.”\par


Look up! Look all around you!\par All of your children are gathering together and coming to you.\par


In the same way, my words leave my mouth,\par and they don’t come back until they make things happen.\par My words make the things happen that I want to happen.\par My words succeed in doing the things I send them to do.\par


In the past, people hurt you.\par Those people will bow down before you.\par In the past, people hated you.\par Those people will bow down at your feet.\par Those people will call you\par ‘The Lord’s City.’\par ‘The Zion {\cf2\super [455]} of the Holy One of Israel.’”\par


The earth causes plants to grow.\par People plant seeds in the garden,\par and the garden makes them grow.\par In the same way, the Lord\par will make goodness grow.\par The Lord will make praise grow\par in all the nations.”\par


The Lord made a promise.\par The Lord used his own power as proof.\par And the Lord will use his power\par to keep that promise.\par


People now ask blessings from the earth.\par \{But in the future,\} they will ask blessings\par from the faithful God.\par People now trust in the power of the earth\par when they make a promise.\par \{But in the future,\} they will trust\par in the faithful God.\par Why? Because the troubles in the past\par will all be forgotten.\par My people will never again\par remember those troubles.\par


But if you don’t obey these commands, this is what the Lord says: I, the Lord, promise that this king’s palace {\cf2\super [174]} will be destroyed—it will become a pile of rocks.’”


If you do those things,\par then you will be able to use my name\par to make a promise:\par You will be able to say,\par ‘As the Lord lives.’\par And you will be able to use those words\par in a truthful, honest, and right way.\par If you do these things, then the nations\par will be blessed by the Lord.\par They will brag about the things\par that the Lord has done.”\par


The Lord says, “By my own power, I make this promise: I promise that the city of Bozrah will be destroyed. That city will become a ruined pile of rocks. People will use that city as an example when they ask for bad things to happen to other cities. People will insult that city. And all the towns around Bozrah will become ruins forever.”


The Lord my Master used his own name and made a promise. The Lord God All-Powerful made this promise:


And the Lord will be the King of the whole world at that time. The Lord is One. His name is One.


God is not a man; he will not lie. God is not a human being; his decisions will not change. If the Lord says he will do something, then he will do it. If the Lord makes a promise, then he will do the thing he promised.


But what answer did God give Elijah? God said, “I have kept for myself 7,000 men that still worship me. These 7,000 men have not given worship to Baal. {\cf2\super [120]} ” {\cf2\super [121]}


Respect the Lord your God and serve only him. And you must use only his name to make promises. {Don’t use the names of false gods!}


God did this because he wants every person to bow for the name of Jesus. Every person in heaven, on the earth, and under the earth will bow.
