But bad people are not like that.\par Bad people are like chaff {\cf2\super [2]} \par that the wind blows away.\par


People of Zion, {\cf2\super [140]} shout about these things!\par The Holy One of Israel is with you\par in a powerful way.\par So, be happy!\par


\{And the people will be like those waves—\}\par God will speak harshly to the people,\par and they will run away.\par The people will be like chaff {\cf2\super [181]} \par being chased by the wind.\par The people will be like tumbleweeds {\cf2\super [182]} \par being chased by a storm.\par The wind blows and the weeds go far away.\par


At that time, people will say,\par “Here is our God!\par He is the One we have been waiting for.\par He has come to save us.\par We have been waiting for our Lord.\par So we will rejoice and be happy\par when the Lord saves us.”\par


At that time, the Lord All-Powerful will become the “Beautiful Crown.” He will be the “Wonderful Crown of Flowers” for his people that are left.


The Lord will make the poor people happy. The poor people will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.


There are many strangers there— like very small pieces of dust. There are many cruel people—like chaff {\cf2\super [266]} blowing in the wind.


God will make his people free! And those people will come back to him. The people will be happy when they come into Zion. {\cf2\super [333]} The people will be happy forever. Their happiness will be like a crown on their heads. Their gladness and joy will fill them completely. Sorrow and sadness will be gone far, far away.


\{Those rulers are like plants\};\par they are planted in the ground,\par but before they can send their roots\par into the ground,\par God blows on the “plants,”\par and they become dead and dry,\par and the wind blows them away like straw.\par


\{In the same way,\} the Lord will bless Zion. {\cf2\super [417]} The Lord will feel sorry for her and her people, and he will do a great thing for her. The Lord will change the desert. The desert will become a garden like the garden of Eden. That land was empty, but it will become like the Lord’s Garden. People there will be very, very happy. People there will show their joy. They will sing songs about thanks and victory.


“The sun will no longer be your light\par during the day.\par The light from the moon will no longer\par be your light \{at night\}.\par Because the Lord will be your light forever.\par Your God will be your glory.\par


My people will be happy.\par They will rejoice forever and ever.\par Why? Because of what I will make.\par I will make a Jerusalem that is full of joy,\par and I will make them a happy people.\par


I will separate the people of Judah\par with my pitchfork. {\cf2\super [128]} \par I will scatter them at the city gates of the land.\par My people have not changed.\par So I will destroy them.\par I will take away their children.\par


I will send foreigners to winnow {\cf2\super [416]} Babylon,\par and they will take everything from the city.\par Armies will surround the city,\par and there will be terrible destruction.\par


\{The Lord says,\}\par “\{Babylon,\} you are my club.\par I used you to smash nations.\par I used you to destroy kingdoms.\par


The Lord All-Powerful,\par the God of the people of Israel, says:\par “Babylon is like a threshing floor. {\cf2\super [424]} \par At harvest time, people beat grain\par to separate the good parts from the chaff. {\cf2\super [425]} \par And the time to beat Babylon\par is coming soon.\par


Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and gold broke to pieces all at the same time. And all those pieces became like chaff {\cf2\super [14]} on a threshing floor {\cf2\super [15]} in the summertime. The wind blew those pieces away, and there was nothing left. No one could tell that a statue had ever been there. Then the rock that hit the statue became a very large mountain and filled up the whole earth.


I will not let my terrible anger win.\par I will not destroy Ephraim again.\par I am God, and not man.\par I am the Holy One, I am with you.\par I will not show my anger.\par


So be happy, people of Zion. {\cf2\super [18]} \par Be joyful in the Lord your God.\par He will be good and give you rain.\par He will send you the early rains\par and the late rains like before.\par


But the survivors {\cf2\super [67]} from Jacob in the nations\par scattered among those people\par will be like a lion\par among the animals in the forest.\par They will be like a young lion\par among flocks of sheep.\par If the lion passes through,\par he goes where he wants to go.\par If he attacks an animal,\par then no one can save that animal.\par \{The survivors will be like that.\}\par


But I will still be glad in the Lord.\par I will rejoice in God my savior.\par


He will come ready to clean the grain. {\cf2\super [43]} He will separate the good grain from the straw. He will put the good part of the grain into his barn. And he will burn the part that is not good. He will burn it with a fire that cannot be stopped.”


And not only will we be saved, but we are also very happy now. We are happy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is because of Jesus that we are now God’s friends.


But we are the people who are truly circumcised. {\cf2\super [16]} We worship (serve) God through his Spirit. {\cf2\super [17]} We are proud to be in Christ Jesus. And we don’t trust in ourselves or anything we can do.
