Three days later, it was Pharaoh’s birthday. Pharaoh gave a party for all his servants. At the party, Pharaoh allowed the wine server and the baker to leave the prison.


King Jeroboam heard the message from the man of God [162] about the altar in Bethel. He took his hand off of the altar and pointed at the man. He said, “Arrest that man!” But when the king said this, his arm became paralyzed. He could not move it.


A person will be truly happy if he\par doesn’t follow the advice of bad people\par and doesn’t live like sinners\par and doesn’t feel at home with people\par who don’t respect God. {\cf2\super [1]} \par


They talk about me in public places.\par The beer drinkers make up songs about me.\par


Be friends with people who are wise, and you will become wise. But if you choose fools to be your friends, then you will have trouble.


Wine and beer make people lose control of themselves. They get loud and start to brag. They become drunk and do foolish things.


Look at Samaria!\par The drunk people of Ephraim\par are proud of that city.\par That city sits on a hill\par with a rich valley around it.\par The people of Samaria think their city\par is a beautiful crown of flowers.\par But they are drunk with wine.\par And this “Beautiful Crown”\par is just a dying plant.\par


You leaders in Jerusalem should listen to the Lord’s message. But now you refuse to listen to him.


No, you did not become humble. Instead, you have turned against the Lord of heaven. You ordered the drinking cups from the Lord’s temple to be brought to you. Then you and your royal officials, your wives, and your women servants {\cf2\super [61]} drank wine from those cups. You gave praise to the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone. Those are not really gods, they can’t see, or hear, or understand anything. But you did not give honor to the God who has the power over your life and everything you do.


Their evil makes their king happy.\par Their false gods please their leaders.\par


On Herod’s {\cf2\super [200]} birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced for Herod and his group. Herod was very pleased with her.


Then the right time came for Herodias to cause John’s death. It happened on Herod’s {\cf2\super [74]} birthday. Herod gave a dinner party for the most important government leaders, the commanders of his army, and the most important people in Galilee.


Don’t be drunk with wine. That will ruin (destroy) you spiritually. But be filled with the Spirit. {\cf2\super [39]}
