Moses answered, “All of our people, young and old, will go. And we will take our sons and daughters, and our sheep and cattle with us. We will all go because the Lord’s feast is for all of us.”


“When all these things happen, you will ask for my help. But I will not help you. You will look for me, but you will not find me.


The Lord hates the offerings that evil people give. But the Lord is happy to hear a good person’s prayers.


The Lord is not happy when evil people offer him sacrifices, especially when those evil people are trying to get something from him.


Some people kill bulls \{as a sacrifice\},\par but they also beat people.\par Those people kill sheep as a sacrifice,\par but they also break the necks of dogs!\par Those people offer up grain offerings,\par but they also offer the blood of pigs! {\cf2\super [475]} \par Those people burn incense, {\cf2\super [476]} \par but they also love their worthless idols. {\cf2\super [477]} \par Those people choose their own ways.\par And they also love their terrible idols.\par


So the Lord says: “I will soon make something terrible happen to the people of Judah. They will not be able to escape! They will be sorry. And they will cry to me for help. But I will not listen to them.


“As for you, Jeremiah, don’t pray for these people of Judah. Don’t beg for them. Don’t say prayers for them. I will not listen. Those people will begin to suffer. And then they will call to me for help. But I will not listen.


The people of Judah might begin to fast {\cf2\super [122]} \{and pray to me\}. But I will not listen to their prayers. Even if they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings to me, I will not accept those people. I will destroy the people of Judah with war. I will take away their food, and the people of Judah will starve. And I will destroy them with terrible diseases.”


Don’t trust the lies that some people say. They say, “This is the temple {\cf2\super [52]} of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord {\cf2\super [53]} !”


You wrapped yourself in a cloud.\par You did that so that no prayer\par could get through.\par


Then \{God\} said to me, “Son of man, {\cf2\super [63]} do you see what terrible things the people of Israel are doing? They built that thing here, right next to my temple! And if you come with me, you will see even more terrible things!”


The Israelites love sacrifices. {\cf2\super [82]} \par They offer the meat and eat it.\par The Lord does not accept their sacrifices.\par He remembers their sins.\par And he will punish them.\par They will be carried as prisoners to Egypt.\par


The people will wander around the country,\par from the Dead Sea\par to the Mediterranean Sea,\par and from the north part of the country,\par to the east.\par The people will go back and forth\par looking for a message from the Lord.\par But they will not find it.\par


So, you might pray to the Lord,\par but he will not answer you.\par No, the Lord will hide his face from you.\par Why? Because you do evil things!”\par


“Surely, some of you priests could close the temple doors and light the fires correctly. I am not pleased with you. I will not accept your gifts.” The Lord All-Powerful said these things.


Jesus often went away to other places to be alone so that he could pray.


You will look for me, but you will not find me. And you cannot come where I am.”
