They told Uzziah he was wrong. They said to him, “Uzziah, it is not your job to burn incense to the Lord. It is not good for you to do this. The priests and Aaron’s descendants {\cf2\super [301]} are the ones that burn incense to the Lord. These priests were trained for holy service to burn incense. Go out of the Most Holy Place. {\cf2\super [302]} You have not been faithful. The Lord God will not honor you for this!”

{The Lord said to Moses,} “Tell your brother Aaron and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, to come to you from the people of Israel. These men will serve me as priests.

“Take Aaron and his sons with him and the clothes, the anointing oil, [82] the bull of the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread. [83]

The Lord brought you Levite people near to him {to help the priests}. But now you are trying to become priests also.

Then a fire came from the Lord and destroyed the 250 men who were offering the incense. [209]

He did this the way the Lord commanded him through Moses. This was a sign to help the people of Israel remember that only a person from the family of Aaron should burn incense [215] before the Lord. Any other person who burns incense before the Lord will die like Korah and his followers.

Then Moses said to Korah and all his followers, “Tomorrow morning the Lord will show which person truly belongs to him. The Lord will show which person is truly holy. And the Lord will bring that person near to him. The Lord will choose that man, and the Lord will bring that man near to him.

Tomorrow put fire and incense [200] in some special pans. Then bring those pans before the Lord. The Lord will choose the person who is truly holy. You Levites have gone too far—you are wrong!”

But, Aaron, only you and your sons may serve as priests. You are the only ones that can go near the altar. You are the only ones that can go inside the curtain {into the Most Holy Place}. I am giving you a gift—your service as a priest. Anyone else that comes near {my} holy place must be killed.”

These sons were the chosen [27] priests.
