Genesis 43:18 - Easy To Read Version

18 The brothers were scared when they were taken to Joseph’s house. They said, “We have been brought here because of the money that was put back in our sacks the last time. They will use that as proof against us. And they will steal our donkeys and make us slaves.”

They said to each other, “We are being punished for the bad thing we did to our younger brother Joseph. We saw the trouble he was in. He begged us to save him. But we refused to listen. So now we are in trouble.”


That night the brothers stopped at a place to spend the night. One of the brothers opened his sack to get some grain for his donkey. And there in the sack, he saw his money!


He said to the other brothers, “Look! Here is the money I paid for the grain. Someone put the money back in my sack!” The brothers were very scared. They said to one another, “What is God doing to us?”


Then the brothers started taking the grain out of their sacks. And every brother found his bag of money in his sack of grain. The brothers and their father saw the money and they were scared.


The servant did as he was told. He brought the men into Joseph’s house.


So the brothers went to the servant in charge of Joseph’s house.


We brought back the money that we found in our sacks before. So surely we wouldn’t steal silver or gold from your master’s house.


Every noise scares him.\par His enemy will attack him\par when he thinks he is safe.\par


They break a hole in the wall.\par They come rushing through it,\par and the crashing rocks fall on me.\par


But those evil people will be scared,\par like they have never been scared before!\par Those evil people are Israel’s enemies.\par God has rejected those evil people.\par So God’s people will defeat them,\par and God will scatter the bones\par of those evil people.\par


I tried hard to understand these things.\par But it was all too hard for me\par

But when the other supervisors and the satraps heard about this, they were very jealous. They tried to find reasons to accuse Daniel. So they watched the things Daniel did as he went about doing the business of the government. But they could not find anything wrong with Daniel. So they could not accuse him of doing anything wrong. Daniel was a man people could trust. He did not cheat the king and he worked very hard.


Herod {\cf2\super [72]} heard these things about Jesus. He said, “I killed John by cutting off his head. Now John has been raised from death!”


And sin found a way to use that command and make me want every kind of wrong thing. So sin came to me because of that command. But without the law, sin has no power.


He might lie and say, ‘I married this woman, but when we had sexual relations, I found she was not a virgin. [134] ’ By saying this against her, people might think bad things about her.


This man has told lies against my daughter. He said, “I did not find the proof that your daughter is a virgin.’ But here is the proof that my daughter was a virgin.”’ Then they should show the cloth [135] to the town leaders.


Manoah said to his wife, “We have seen God! Surely we will die because of this!”


(Samson’s parents did not know that the Lord wanted this to happen. The Lord was looking for a way to do something against the Philistine people. The Philistine people were ruling over the people of Israel at that time.)
