Then the Lord said, “What have you done? {You killed your brother!} His blood is like a voice shouting to me from the ground.


Joseph was using an interpreter to talk to his brothers. So the brothers did not know that Joseph understood their language. But Joseph heard and understood everything they said.


Joseph said to his brothers, “I am your brother Joseph. Is my father doing well?” But the brothers did not answer him. They were confused and scared.


After Jacob died, Joseph’s brothers became worried. They were afraid that Joseph would still be mad at them for what they had done years before. They said, “Maybe Joseph still hates us for what we did.”


Joab killed two men who were much better than himself. They were Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. Abner was the commander of Israel’s army and Amasa was the commander of Judah’s army. My father David did not know at that time that Joab had killed them. So the Lord will punish Joab for those men he killed.


He will be guilty for their deaths. And his family will also be guilty forever. But God will bring peace for David, his descendants, [10] his family of kings, and his kingdom forever.”


Joash the king didn’t remember Jehoiada’s kindness to him. Jehoiada was Zechariah’s father. But Joash killed Zechariah, Jehoiada’s son. Before Zechariah died, he said, “May the Lord see what you are doing and punish you!”

They show that in their hearts they know what is right and wrong, the same as the law commands. And those people also show this by the way they feel about right and wrong.
