I ask you to please save me from my brother. Save me from Esau. I am afraid of him. I am afraid that he will come and kill all of us, even the mothers with the children.


Jacob’s brother Esau was living in the area called Seir. This area was the hill country of Edom. [190] Jacob sent messengers to Esau.


Jacob thought, “If Esau comes and destroys one group, then the other group can run away and be saved.”


Jacob looked and saw Esau coming. Esau was coming and 400 men were with him. Jacob divided his family into four groups. Leah and her children were in one group, Rachel and Joseph were in one group, and the two maids and their children were in two groups.


We will leave here and go to Bethel. In that place, I will build an altar to the God who helped me during my time of trouble. And that God has been with me everywhere I went.”


Then they called to the Lord for help.\par And he saved them from their troubles.\par


It is good for a person\par to be kind and generous.\par It is good for a person\par to be fair in his business.\par


I look around,\par and I don’t see any of my friends.\par I have no place to run.\par No person is trying to save me.\par

The people of Israel saw Pharaoh and his army coming toward them. The people were very scared. They cried to the Lord for help.


Wisdom will protect you, and under standing will guard you.


Our God is using this to teach you a lesson. \{This example\} shows us that God is fair when he punishes his people.


“Listen! I am sending you, and you will be like sheep among wolves. So be smart like snakes. But also be like doves and do nothing wrong.


Jesus answered, “Why are you afraid? You don’t have enough faith.” Then Jesus stood and gave a command to the wind and the waves. The wind stopped, and the lake became very calm.


“I told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have trouble. But be brave! I have defeated the world!”


In those cities Paul and Barnabas made the followers \{of Jesus\} stronger. They helped them to stay in the faith. Paul and Barnabas said, “We must suffer many things on our way into God’s kingdom.”


He comforts us every time we have trouble, so that we can comfort other people any time they have trouble. We can comfort them with the same comfort that God gives us.


Every person who wants to live the way God wants, in Christ Jesus, will be persecuted.
