The servant took ten of Abraham’s camels and left that place. The servant carried with him many different kinds of beautiful gifts. The servant went to Mesopotamia to Nahor’s city.


When Isaac was 40 years old he married Rebekah. Rebekah was from Paddan Aram. She was Bethuel’s daughter and the sister of Laban the Aramean.


God said to Jacob, “Go to the town of Bethel. [200] Live there and make an altar [201] for worship. Remember El, [202] the God who appeared [203] to you there when you were running away from your brother Esau. Make your altar to worship that God there.”


Jacob built an altar [205] there. Jacob named the place “El Bethel.” Jacob chose this name because that is the place God first appeared to him when he was running from his brother.


Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the men in the East. And his wisdom was greater than all the men in Egypt.


I will gladly obey your commands.\par Lord, your commands make me happy.\par


I hurried back to obey your commands\par without delay.\par


So go and eat your food now and enjoy it. Drink your wine and be happy. It is all right with God if you do these things.


“Jacob ran away to the land of Aram. In that place, Israel {\cf2\super [140]} worked for a wife. He kept sheep to get another wife.


They did that because the Midianite and Amalekite people from the east always came and destroyed their crops.


The people of Midian, Amalek, and other people from the east joined together {to fight against the people of Israel}. Those people went across the Jordan River and camped in Jezreel Valley.


The people of Midian, the people of Amalek, and all the other people from the east were camped in that valley. There were so many people that they seemed like a swarm of locusts. [69] It seemed like those people had as many camels as there are grains of sand on the seashore.


Zebah and Zalmunna and their army were in the city of Karkor. Their army had 15,000 soldiers in it. These soldiers were all that were left of the army of the people of the east. 120,000 strong soldiers of that army had already been killed.
