You have been very kind to me. You did many good things for me. The first time I traveled across the Jordan River, I owned nothing—only my walking stick. But now I own enough things to have two full groups.


The time came when Israel (Jacob) knew he would soon die, so he called his son Joseph to him. He said, “If you love me, then put your hand under my leg and make a promise. [252] Promise that you will do what I say and that you will be truthful with me. When I die, don’t bury me in Egypt.


Never stop loving. Always be loyal and true. \{Make these things a part of yourself\}—tie them around your neck and write them on your heart.


Please let us travel through your country. We will not travel through any fields or vineyards. We will not drink water from any of your wells. We will travel only along the King’s Road. We will not leave that road to the right or to the left. We will stay on the road until we have traveled through your country.”


‘Let us go through your land. We will stay on the road. We will not turn off the road to the right or to the left.


The men agreed. They said, “We will trade our lives for yours. Don’t tell anyone what we are doing. Then, when the Lord gives us our land, we will be kind to you. You can trust us.”
