A slave does not stay with a family forever. But a son belongs to the family forever.


God chose the Israelites to be his people before \{they were born\}. And God did not throw out those people. Surely you know what the Scripture {\cf2\super [115]} says about Elijah. {\cf2\super [116]} The Scripture tells about Elijah praying to God against the people of Israel. Elijah said,


The Scripture {\cf2\super [33]} says, “Abraham believed God. And God accepted Abraham’s faith. That made Abraham right with God.” {\cf2\super [34]}


But this is not true, because the Scriptures {\cf2\super [42]} showed that all people are bound by sin. Why did the Scriptures do this? So that the promise would be given to people through faith. The promise is given to people who believe in Jesus Christ.


The Scriptures told what would happen in the future. These writings said that God would make the non-Jewish people right through their faith. God told this Good News {\cf2\super [26]} to Abraham before it happened. God said to Abraham, “I will use you to bless all the people on earth.” {\cf2\super [27]}


The Scriptures {\cf2\super [53]} say that Abraham {\cf2\super [54]} had two sons. The mother of one son was a slave woman. The mother of the other son was a free woman.


So, my brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman. We are children of the free woman.


Do you think the Scriptures {\cf2\super [19]} mean nothing? The Scriptures say, “The Spirit {\cf2\super [20]} that \{God\} made to live in us wants us only for himself.” {\cf2\super [21]}
