Galatians 4:24 - Easy To Read Version

24 This true story makes a picture for us. The two women are like the two agreements (covenants) between God and his people. One agreement is \{the law that God made\} on Mount Sinai. {\cf2\super [55]} The people who are under this agreement are like slaves. The mother named Hagar is like that agreement.

This is the same as what the prophet {\cf2\super [185]} said:

The Spirit {\cf2\super [65]} that we received is not a spirit that makes us slaves again and causes us to fear. The Spirit that we have makes us God’s chosen children. And with that Spirit we say, “Abba, {\cf2\super [66]} Father.”

The things that happened to those people are examples. And those things were written to be warnings for us. We live in the time that all those past histories were pointing to.

And they all drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from that spiritual rock that was with them. That rock was Christ.

So Hagar is like Mount Sinai in Arabia. She is a picture of the earthly \{Jewish\} city of Jerusalem. This city is a slave, and all its people (the Jews) are slaves \{to the law\}.

It is the same for us. We were once like children. We were slaves to the useless rules of this world.

We have freedom now. Christ made us free. So stand strong. Don’t change and go back into the slavery \{of law\}.

Abraham believed that God could raise people from death. And really, \{when God stopped Abraham from killing Isaac,\} it was like Abraham got Isaac back from death.

You have come to Jesus—the One that brought the new agreement {\cf2\super [168]} from God to his people. You have come to the sprinkled blood {\cf2\super [169]} that tells us about better things than the blood of Abel. {\cf2\super [170]}

So this means that Jesus is the guarantee of a better agreement {\cf2\super [72]} \{from God to his people\}.
