\{Jonah did not want to obey God,\} so Jonah tried to run away from the Lord. Jonah went to Joppa. {\cf2\super [3]} Jonah found a boat that was going to the faraway city of Tarshish. {\cf2\super [4]} Jonah paid money for the trip and went on the boat. Jonah wanted to travel with the people on this boat to Tarshish and run away from the Lord.

But God said to Jonah, “Do you think it is right for you to be angry just because this plant died?”

But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “All the people of Israel were gathered around. But you did not show me honor. You did not show the people of Israel that the power to make the water came from me. You did not show the people that you trusted in me. I will give those people the land that I promised them. But you will not lead them into that land!”

Then Jesus said to Peter, “Go away from me, Satan {\cf2\super [234]} ! You are not helping me! You don’t care about the things of God. You only care about things that people think are important.”

Then Andrew brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at Simon and said, “You are Simon, the son of John. You will be called Cephas.” (“Cephas” means “Peter. {\cf2\super [29]} ”)

The believers were scattered by the persecution {\cf2\super [226]} that happened after Stephen was killed. Some of the believers went to places far away like Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch. The believers told the Good News {\cf2\super [227]} in these places; but they told it only to Jews.

Some of these believers were men from Cyprus and Cyrene. When these men came to Antioch, they also spoke to Greeks (non-Jews). They told these Greek people the Good News about the Lord Jesus.

The church (group of believers) in Jerusalem heard about these new believers \{in Antioch\}. So the believers in Jerusalem sent Barnabas to Antioch.

About that same time some prophets {\cf2\super [229]} went from Jerusalem to Antioch.

Then some men came \{to Antioch\} from Judea. They began teaching the non-Jewish brothers: “You cannot be saved if you are not circumcised. {\cf2\super [296]} Moses taught us to do this.”

Some of the believers \{in Jerusalem\} had belonged to the Pharisees. {\cf2\super [301]} They stood up and said, “The non-Jewish believers must be circumcised. {\cf2\super [302]} We must tell them to obey the law of Moses!”

I don’t think that those “great apostles {\cf2\super [33]} ” are any better than I am.

I have been \{talking like\} a fool. But you made me do it. You people are the ones who should say good things about me. I am worth nothing, but those “great apostles {\cf2\super [46]} ” are not worth any more than I am!

That is why we never become weak. Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day.

I saw what these Jews did. They were not following the truth of the Good News. {\cf2\super [17]} So I spoke to Peter in a way that all the other Jews could hear what I said. This is what I said: “Peter, you are a Jew. But you don’t live like a Jew. You live like a non-Jew. So why do you now force the non-Jewish people to live like Jews?”

But we did not agree with anything those false brothers wanted! We wanted the truth of the Good News to continue for you.

But these leaders saw that God had given me a special work, the same as Peter. {\cf2\super [13]} God gave Peter the work of telling the Good News to the Jews. But God gave me the work of telling the Good News to the non-Jewish people.

James, Peter, and John seemed to be the leaders. They saw that God had given me this special grace (gift). So they accepted Barnabas and me. Peter, James, and John said, “Paul and Barnabas, we agree that you should go to the people who are not Jews. We will go to the Jews.”

Tell those who sin that they are wrong. Do this in front of the whole church. In that way the others will have a warning.

We all make many mistakes. If there were a person who never said anything wrong, then that person would be perfect. A person like that would be able to control their whole body, too.
