“Sir, listen to me. 10 pounds [129] of silver means nothing to you and me! Take the land, and bury your dead wife.”


Every person who is counted must pay 1Ú2 shekel. (That is 1Ú2 shekel by the official measure. [299] This shekel weighs 20 gerahs. [300])This half shekel is an offering to the Lord.


Every person who is at least 20 years old will be counted. And every person counted must give the Lord this offering.


You will be allowed to use only 1 cup {\cf2\super [38]} of that flour each day to make bread. You will eat that bread from time to time throughout the day.


“This is a special offering that you must give:


“You must use the official measure [465] in paying those prices. The shekel by that measure weighs 20 gerahs. [466]


Using the official measure, [46] collect five shekels [47] of silver for each of the 273 people. (The shekel by the official measure weighs 20 gerahs. [48])Collect that silver from the people of Israel.
