You could lie down to rest,\par and no one would bother you.\par And many people would come to you\par for help.\par


My people will live in the beautiful field of peace. My people will live in tents of safety. They will live in calm and peaceful places.


“So, Jacob {\cf2\super [237]} my servant, don’t be afraid!”\par This message is from the Lord.\par “Israel, don’t be afraid.\par I will save you from that faraway place.\par You are captives {\cf2\super [238]} in that faraway land,\par But I will save your descendants. {\cf2\super [239]} \par \{I will bring them back\} from that land.\par Jacob will have peace again.\par People will not bother Jacob.\par There will be no enemy to scare my people.\par


‘I have forced the people of Israel and Judah to leave their land. I was very angry with those people. But I will bring them back to this place. I will gather those people from the land where I forced them to go. I will bring them back to this place. I will let them live in peace and safety.


“Jacob, {\cf2\super [370]} my servant, don’t be afraid.\par Don’t be scared, Israel.\par I will save you from those faraway places.\par I will save your children from the countries\par where they are captives. {\cf2\super [371]} \par Jacob will have peace and safety again.\par And no person will make him afraid.”\par


“And I will make a peace agreement with my sheep. I will take harmful animals away from the land. Then the sheep can be safe in the desert and sleep in the woods.


I will give them some land that will make a good garden. Then they won’t suffer from hunger in that land. They won’t suffer the insults from the nations any more.


“‘And now the sheep are scattered because there was no shepherd. They became food for every wild animal. So they were scattered.


“By my life, I promise this to you. Wild animals caught my sheep. Yes, my flock has become food for all the wild animals. Why? Because they did not have a real shepherd. My shepherds did not look out for my flock. No, those shepherds only killed the sheep and fed themselves. They did not feed my flock.”


“I won’t let those other nations insult you any more. You won’t be hurt by those people any more. You won’t take the children away from your people again.” The Lord my Master said those things.


So, mountains of Israel, listen to the word of the Lord my Master! The Lord my Master says this to the mountains, hills, streams, valleys, empty ruins, and abandoned cities that have been looted and laughed at by the other nations around them.


The people will forget their shame and all the times they turned against me. They will live in safety on their own land. No one will make them afraid.


They will come from Egypt\par shaking like birds.\par They will come shaking like doves\par from the land of Assyria.\par And I will take them back home.”\par The Lord said that.\par


I will plant my people\par on their land.\par And they will never again\par be pulled up out of the land\par that I have given them.”\par The Lord your God said these things.\par


The survivors {\cf2\super [22]} of Israel won’t do bad things. They won’t tell lies. They won’t try to trick people with lies. They will be like sheep that eat and lie down in peace—and no one will bother them.”


“These people will plant in peace. Their grapevines will produce grapes. The land will give good crops, and the skies will give rain. I will give all these things to these, my people.
