29 Tagairtí Cros

Our ancestors left the Lord and turned their faces away from the Lord’s house. {\cf2\super [336]}

At that time, people will throw away their gold and silver idols. (The people made those statues so the people could worship them.) The people will throw those statues into holes in the ground where bats and moles {\cf2\super [26]} live.

You have statues covered with silver and gold. Those false gods have made you dirty (sinful). But you will stop serving those false gods. You will throw away those gods like waste and dirty rags. {\cf2\super [280]}

I saw the terrible things you did. {\cf2\super [117]} \par I saw you laughing\par and having sex with your lovers.\par I know about your plans\par to be like a prostitute. {\cf2\super [118]} \par I have seen you on the hills\par and in the fields.\par It will be very bad for you, Jerusalem.\par I wonder how long you will continue doing\par your dirty sins.”\par

But I will give them an answer. \{I will punish them!\} You must tell those people these things. ‘The Lord my Master says: If any Israelite comes to a prophet and asks me for advice, then \{the prophet won’t give that person an answer\}. I myself will answer that person’s question. I will answer him even if he still has his filthy idols, even if he kept the things that made him sin, and even if he still worships those statues. I will speak to him in spite of all his filthy idols.

Then he led me to the inner courtyard of the Lord’s temple. At that place, I saw 25 men bowing down and worshiping. They were between the porch and the altar—but they were facing the wrong way! Their backs were to the Holy Place. They were bowing down to worship the sun!

Then \{God\} said to me, “Son of man, {\cf2\super [63]} do you see what terrible things the people of Israel are doing? They built that thing here, right next to my temple! And if you come with me, you will see even more terrible things!”

“Ephraim, {\cf2\super [150]} I will have nothing more\par to do with idols. {\cf2\super [151]} \par I am the One who answers your prayers.\par I am the One who watches over you. {\cf2\super [152]} \par I am like a fir tree that is always green.\par Your fruit comes from me.”\par

“Then, Jerusalem, you will no longer be ashamed of the bad things your people do against me. Why? Because I will remove all of those bad people from Jerusalem. I will take away all of those proud people. There won’t be any of those proud people on my holy mountain. {\cf2\super [21]}

The Lord said, “Don’t be like your ancestors. In the past, the prophets spoke to them. They said, ‘The Lord All-Powerful wants you to change your bad way of living. Stop doing bad things!’ But your ancestors did not listen to me.” The Lord said those things.

In the past, people did not understand God, but God ignored this. But now, God tells every person in the world to change his heart and life.

I began telling people that they should change their hearts and lives and turn back to God. I told the people to do things that show that they really changed their hearts. I told these things first to people in Damascus. Then I went to Jerusalem and to every part of Judea and told these things to the people there. I also went to the non-Jewish people.

So you must change your hearts and lives! Come back to God and he will forgive your sins.

You did evil things. Now you are ashamed of those things. Did those things help you? No. Those things only bring \{spiritual\} death.

Samuel told the people of Israel, “If you are really coming back to the Lord—with all your heart—then you must throw away your foreign gods. You must throw away your idols of Ashtoreth. [83] And you must give yourselves fully to the Lord. You must serve only the Lord! Then the Lord will save you from the Philistines.”
