18 “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat that bread made without yeast like I commanded you before. Do this during the month I have chosen, the month of Abib. [346] Why? Because that is the month you came out of Egypt.

“This month [62] will be the first month of the year for you.


So that is a very special night when the people remember what the Lord did. All the people of Israel will remember that night forever.


Moses said to the people, “Remember this day. You were slaves in Egypt. But on this day the Lord used his great power and made you free. You must not eat bread with yeast.


Today, in the month of Abib, [80] you are leaving {Egypt}.


“You will have three special holidays each year. On these holidays, you will come to my special place to worship me.


The first holiday will be the Festival of Unleavened Bread. This is like I commanded you. At this time you will eat bread that is made without yeast. This will continue for seven days. You will do this during the month of Abib, [146] because this is the time when you came out of Egypt. Every person must bring a sacrifice to me at that time.


“The Festival of Unleavened Bread [398] is on the 15th day of the same month (Nisan). You will eat unleavened bread for seven days.


“The Lord’s Passover will be on the 14th day of the first month.


The Festival of Unleavened Bread begins on the 15th day of that month. This holiday lasts for seven days. The only bread you can eat is bread made without yeast.


It was now only two days before the Passover {\cf2\super [190]} and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. {\cf2\super [191]} The leading priests and teachers of the law were trying to find a way to arrest Jesus without the people seeing it. Then they could kill him.


It was almost time for the Jewish Festival of Unleavened Bread, {\cf2\super [339]} called the Passover. {\cf2\super [340]}


Herod saw that the Jews liked this. So he decided to arrest Peter, too. (This happened during the time of the Jewish holiday called the Passover. {\cf2\super [235]})
