23 Moses told them, “This is what the Lord said would happen. It happened because tomorrow is the Sabbath, the special day of rest to honor the Lord. You can cook all the food you need to cook for today. But save the rest of this food for tomorrow morning.”

Then you came down to Mount Sinai.\par You spoke to them from heaven.\par You gave them good laws.\par You gave them true teachings.\par You gave them laws and commands that were very good!\par


You told them about your special day of rest—the Sabbath.\par You used your servant Moses to give them commands, laws, and teachings.\par


Moses told them, “Don’t save that food to eat the next day.”


“Work for six days. Then on the seventh day, rest! This will allow your slaves and other workers a time for rest and relaxation. And your bulls and donkeys will also have a time of rest.


There are six other days in the week for working. But the seventh day is a very special day of rest. That is the special day to honor the Lord. Any person who works during the Sabbath must be killed.


Don’t bring a load out of your houses on the Sabbath day. Don’t do any work on that day. You must make the Sabbath day a holy day. I gave this same command to your ancestors. {\cf2\super [143]}


“Work for six days. But the seventh day, the Sabbath, will be a special day of rest, a holy meeting. You must not do any work. It is a Sabbath to the Lord in all your homes.


(The manna was like small coriander seeds, and it looked like gum from a tree.
