16 The whole body depends on Christ. And all the parts of the body are joined and held together. Each part of the body does its own work. And this makes the whole body grow and be strong with love.

“I am the vine and you are the branches. If a person continues in me and I continue in that person, then that person will make much fruit. But without me that person can do nothing.


Each one of us has one body, and that body has many parts. These parts don’t all do the same thing.


(There is one loaf of bread. And we are many people. But we all share from that one loaf. So we are really one body.)


So these three things continue: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.


Now \{I will write\} about meat that is sacrificed {\cf2\super [46]} to idols. {\cf2\super [47]} We know that “we all have knowledge.” “Knowledge” puffs you up full of pride. But love makes \{you help\} others grow stronger.


But the Spirit {\cf2\super [74]} gives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,


When a person is in Christ Jesus, it is not important if he is circumcised or not. The important thing is faith—the kind of faith that works through love.


In Christ, God chose us before the world was made. God chose us in love to be his holy people {\cf2\super [4]} —people with no wrong in us before him.


I pray that Christ will live in your hearts because of your faith. I pray that your life will be strong in love and be built on love.


By God’s special gift of grace (kindness), I became a servant to tell that Good News. {\cf2\super [24]} God gave me that grace by using his power.


Christ gave those gifts to prepare God’s holy people {\cf2\super [34]} for the work of serving. He gave those gifts to make the body of Christ stronger.


No! We will speak the truth with love. We will grow to be like Christ in every way. Christ is the head \{and we are the body\}.


Those people don’t keep themselves under the control of the head (Christ). The whole body depends on Christ. Because of Christ all the parts of the body care for each other and help each other. This strengthens the body and holds it together. And so the body grows in the way God wants.


I want them to be strengthened and joined together with love. I want them to have the full confidence that comes from understanding. I mean I want them to know fully the secret truth that God has made known. That truth is Christ himself.


When we pray to God our Father we always thank him for the things you have done because of your faith. And we thank him for the work you have done because of your love. And we thank him that you continue to be strong because of your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.


Also, we always thank God because of the way you accepted God’s message (teaching). You heard that message from us, and you accepted it like it was God’s words, not the words of men. And it really is God’s message (teaching). And that message works in you people who believe.


We pray that the Lord will make your love grow. We pray that he will give you more and more love for each other and for all people. We pray that you will love all people like we love you.


We thank God for you always. And we should do that because that is right for us to do. It is right because your faith is growing more and more. And the love that every one of you has for each other is also growing.


The goal of this command is for people to have love. To have this love people must have a pure heart, they must do what they know is right, and they must have true faith.


Now you have made yourselves pure by obeying the truth. Now you can have true love for your brothers and sisters. So love each other deeply—with all your heart.


And so we know the love that God has for us. And we trust that love.
