10 “The Lord your God made a promise to your ancestors, [37] Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Lord promised to give you this land. The Lord will give you that land! And he will give you great and rich cities that you did not build.

So on that day, the Lord made a promise and an agreement with Abram. The Lord said, “I will give this land to your descendants. I will give them the land between the River of Egypt [88] and the great river Euphrates.


Stay in that land, and I will be with you. I will bless you. I will give you and your family all these lands. I will do what I promised to Abraham your father.


And then Jacob saw the Lord standing by the ladder. The Lord said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham. I am the God of Isaac. I will give you the land that you are lying on now. I will give this land to you and to your children.


They defeated powerful cities.\par They took the fertile land.\par They got houses filled with good things.\par They got wells that were already dug.\par They got vineyards, olive trees, and plenty of fruit trees!\par They ate until they were full and fat.\par They enjoyed all the wonderful things\par you gave them.\par


Then God gave his people the country\par where other people were living.\par God’s people got the things\par other people had worked for.\par


God forced the other nations\par to leave that land.\par God gave each family its share of the land.\par God gave each family group of Israel\par its home to live in.\par


Look, I am giving you that land. Go and take it. I promised to give that land to your ancestors [2] —Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I promised to give that land to them and to their descendants. [3] ’”


“The Lord your God is giving you land that belongs to other nations. The Lord will destroy those nations. You will live where those people lived. You will take their cities and their houses. When that happens,


I will take them into the land that I promised to give to their ancestors [206] —a land filled with many good things. [207] And they will have all they want to eat. They will have a rich life. But then they will turn to other gods and serve them. They will turn away from me and break my Agreement.


You must do the things that are right and good—things that please the Lord. Then everything will go well for you, and you can go in and take the good land that the Lord promised your ancestors. [38]


And the Lord brought us out of Egypt so that he could give us the land that he promised our ancestors. [39]


Then you will have plenty to eat, and you will build good houses and live in them.


“Listen, you people of Israel! You will go across the Jordan River today. You will go into that land to force out nations greater and stronger than you. Their cities are big and have walls as high as the sky!


I, the Lord, gave that land to you! You didn’t work for that land—I gave it to you! You did not build those cities—I gave them to you! And now you live in that land and in those cities. You have gardens of grapevines and olive trees, but you did not have to plant those gardens.”
