There was war for a long time between Saul’s family and David’s family. David became stronger and stronger. And Saul’s family became weaker and weaker.


Then all the family groups of Israel came to David at Hebron. They said to David, “Look, we are one family! [21]


David asked the Lord, saying, “Should I go to war against the Philistines? Will you help me defeat the Philistines?”


From the top of the balsam trees you will be able to hear the Philistines marching into battle. Then you must act quickly, because at that time the Lord will go ahead of you and defeat the Philistines for you.”


More and more men came every day to help David. So David had a large and powerful army.


But people who ask God for help\par are very happy.\par Those people depend on the Lord their God.\par


May God send you help from his Holy Place.\par May he support you from Zion. {\cf2\super [114]} \par


Lord, your strength makes the king happy.\par He is so happy when you save him.\par


God, you will show all your enemies that you are strong.\par Your power will defeat the people who hate you.\par


No, God chose Judah’s family group.\par God chose Zion, the mountain\par he loves.\par


God chose David to be his special servant.\par David was guarding the sheep pens,\par but God took him away from that job.\par


I will always love and support\par my chosen king.\par I will always make him strong.\par


All the people are evil. So the Lord is not happy with the young men. And the Lord will not show mercy to their widows and orphans. {\cf2\super [111]} Why? Because all the people are evil. The people do things that are against God. The people speak lies. So God will continue to be angry with the people. God will continue to punish the people.


But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,\par are the smallest town in Judah.\par Your family is almost too small to count.\par But the “Ruler of Israel”\par will come from you for me.\par His beginnings {\cf2\super [60]} are from ancient times,\par from long, long ago.\par


The Lord All-Powerful says, “I am sending my messenger to prepare the way for me. Then suddenly, the Master you are looking for will come to his temple. {\cf2\super [16]} Yes, the messenger of the \{New\} Agreement that you want really is coming!


These are the names of the leaders:


Now where are my enemies? Where are the people that did not want me to be king? Bring my enemies here and kill them. I will watch them die!’”


Christ must rule until God puts all enemies under Christ’s control. {\cf2\super [111]}


It is clear that our Lord (Christ) came from the family group of Judah. And Moses {\cf2\super [67]} said nothing about priests belonging to that family group.


The family group of Judah got the land that God promised them. Each family group got part of the land.
