Colossians 2:12 - Easy To Read Version

12 When you were baptized, {\cf2\super [10]} \{your old self died and\} you were buried with Christ. And in that baptism {\cf2\super [11]} you were raised up with Christ because of your faith in God’s power. God’s power was shown when he raised Christ from death.

The apostles {\cf2\super [269]} said to the Lord (Jesus), “Give us more faith!”


When Paul and Barnabas arrived, they gathered the church (group of believers) together. Paul and Barnabas told them about all the things God had done with them. They said, “God opened a door so that the people of other nations (non-Jews) could also believe!”


Jesus suffered the pain of death, but God made him free. God raised Jesus from death. Death could not hold Jesus.


So Jesus is the One God raised from death, \{not David\}! We are all witnesses of this. We saw him!


Those words were also written for us. God will also accept us because we believe. We believe in the One (God) that raised Jesus our Lord from death.


In the same way, my brothers and sisters, your old selves died and you became free from the law {\cf2\super [52]} through the body of Christ. Now you belong to someone else. You belong to the One (Christ) that was raised from death. We belong to Christ so that we can be used in service to God.


Some of us are Jews and some of us are Greeks (non-Jews); some of us are slaves and some of us are free. But we were all baptized {\cf2\super [86]} into one body through one Spirit. {\cf2\super [87]} And we were all given {\cf2\super [88]} the one Spirit.


But Christ has truly been raised from death—the first one of all those \{believers\} who will be raised from death.


I mean that you are saved by grace. And you got that grace by believing. You did not save yourselves. It was a gift from God.


I pray that Christ will live in your hearts because of your faith. I pray that your life will be strong in love and be built on love.


By God’s special gift of grace (kindness), I became a servant to tell that Good News. {\cf2\super [24]} God gave me that grace by using his power.


There is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. {\cf2\super [29]}


And everything that is made easy to see can become light. This is why we say:


God gave you the honor of believing in Christ. But that is not all. God also gave you the honor of suffering for Christ. Both these things bring glory to Christ.


You were spiritually dead because of your sins and because you were not free from the power of your sinful self. But God made you alive with Christ. And God forgave all our sins.


We should always follow the example of Jesus. Jesus is the leader in our faith. And he makes our faith perfect. He suffered death on the cross. But Jesus accepted the shame of the cross like it was nothing. He did this because of the joy that God put before him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne.


At that time we were taught about baptisms, {\cf2\super [44]} and about the special act of a person putting his hands on people. {\cf2\super [45]} We were taught about people rising from death and about the judgment that will continue forever. But now we need to go forward to more mature (advanced) teaching. {\cf2\super [46]}


That water is like baptism {\cf2\super [26]} that now saves you. Baptism is not the washing of dirt from the body. Baptism is asking God for a pure heart. It saves you because Jesus Christ was raised from death.
