How can a young person live a pure life?\par By following your instructions.\par


People use lye {\cf2\super [13]} to clean silver. \{In the same way,\} I will clean all your wrongs away. I will take all the worthless things out from you.


You people should leave Babylon!\par Leave that place!\par \{Priests,\} you carry the things\par that are used in worship.\par So make yourselves pure.\par Don’t touch anything that is not pure.\par


Then, the Lord said,\par “Jeremiah, if you change\par and come back to me,\par then I will not punish you.\par If you change and come back to me,\par then you can serve me.\par If you speak important things,\par and not those worthless words,\par then you can speak for me.\par The people of Judah should change\par and come back to you \{Jeremiah\}.\par But don’t you change\par and be like them.\par


He will make the Levites {\cf2\super [17]} clean. {\cf2\super [18]} He will make them pure, like silver is made pure—with fire! He will make them pure like gold and silver. Then they will bring gifts to the Lord—and they will do those things the right way.

Dear friends, we have these promises \{from God\}. So we should make ourselves pure—free from anything that makes our body or our soul unclean. We should try to become perfect in the way we live, because we respect God.


And God can give you more blessings than you need. Then you will always have plenty of everything. You will have enough to give to every good work.


God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would do good things. God had already planned those good things for us. God had planned for us to live our lives doing those good things.


But you are a man of God. So you should stay away from all those things. Try to live in the right way, serve God, have faith, love, patience, and gentleness.


Stay away from people who talk about useless things that are not from God. That kind of talk will lead a person more and more against God.


In a large house there are things made of gold and silver. But also there are things made of wood and clay. Some things are used for special purposes. Other things are made for dirty jobs.

But I did not want to do anything without asking you first. Then the good thing you do for me will be because you want to do it, not because I forced you to do it.


There is something that you should do. And because of the authority I have in Christ, I feel free to command you to do it.


Now you have made yourselves pure by obeying the truth. Now you can have true love for your brothers and sisters. So love each other deeply—with all your heart.


Why do these troubles happen? To prove that your faith is pure (true). This purity of faith is worth more than gold. Gold can be proved to be pure by fire, but gold will ruin. The purity of your faith will bring you praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ appears (comes).


Christ is pure. And every person who has this hope in Christ keeps himself pure like Christ.
