A person told David, “Ahithophel is one of the people who made plans with Absalom.” Then David prayed, “Lord, I ask you to make Ahithophel’s advice useless.”


Ahithophel saw that the Israelites did not accept his advice. Ahithophel put a saddle on his donkey and went back to his home town. He made plans for his family and then he hanged himself. After Ahithophel died, the people buried him in his father’s tomb. [101]


During the 14th year that Hezekiah was king, Sennacherib king of Assyria went to fight against all the strong cities of Judah. Sennacherib defeated all those cities.


“Go back and speak to Hezekiah, the leader of my people. Tell him, ‘The Lord, the God of your ancestor [244] David says: I have heard your prayer and I have seen your tears. So I will heal you. On the third day, you will go up to the temple of the Lord.


You will pray to him,\par and he will hear you.\par And you will be able to do the things\par you promised to do.\par


\{God says,\}\par “Call for me when you have troubles!\par I will help you.\par And then you can honor me.”\par


We tell about the things you have done.\par And you hear our prayers.\par You hear the prayers of every person who comes to you.\par


When our sins become too heavy for us,\par you take away those sins.\par


Then you will call to the Lord, and the Lord will answer you. You will shout to the Lord, and he will say, “Here I am.”

“Judah, pray to me, and I will answer you. I will tell you important secrets. You have never heard these things before.


I know that you always hear me. But I said these things because of the people here around me. I want them to believe that you sent me.”


The man said, ‘Cornelius! God has heard your prayer. God has seen the things you give to the poor people. God remembers you.


Cornelius looked at the angel. He became afraid and said, “What do you want, sir?”
