Absalom and all the Israelites said, “The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than Ahithophel’s advice.” {They said this} because it was the Lord’s plan. The Lord had planned to make Ahithophel’s good advice useless. That is how the Lord would punish Absalom.


Rehoboam said to them, “What advice do you give me? How should we answer those people? They asked me to make their work easier. And they want me to make the weight lighter that my father put on them.”


You turned away and ignored all of my advice. You refused to accept my words.


Be friends with people who are wise, and you will become wise. But if you choose fools to be your friends, then you will have trouble.


Listen to advice and accept discipline. Then you will become wise.


If a wise person gives you a warning, it is worth more than gold rings or jewelry made from the finest gold.


Don’t forget your friends and your father’s friends. And if you have trouble, don’t go far away to your brother’s house for help. It is better to ask a neighbor that is near you than to go far away to your brother.


If you teach a wise man, then he will become wiser. If you teach a good man, then he will learn more.


It is very bad for a country if the king is like a child. And it is very bad for a country if its rulers use all their time eating.


The Lord said, “Look at these children. They don’t obey me. They make plans, but they don’t ask me to help them. They make agreements with other nations, but my Spirit does not want those agreements. These people are adding more and more sins to themselves.
