1 Kings 9:11 - Easy To Read Version

11 And after 20 years King Solomon gave 20 towns in Galilee to Hiram the king of Tyre. Solomon gave King Hiram these towns because Hiram helped Solomon build the temple and the palace. Hiram gave Solomon all the cedar and pine and gold that Solomon wanted.

It took 20 years for King Solomon to build the Lord’s temple and the king’s palace. [121]


So Hiram traveled from Tyre to see the towns that Solomon gave him. When Hiram saw those towns, he was not pleased.


Hiram had sent to King Solomon about 9,000 pounds [123] of gold {to use in building the temple}.


And we will cut wood from the country of Lebanon. We will cut as much wood as you need. We will tie the logs together and float them by sea to the town of Joppa. Then you can carry the wood to Jerusalem.”


Then Solomon built again the towns that Hiram gave him. And Solomon allowed some of the people of Israel to live in those towns.


The Lord says these things: “I will definitely punish \{the people of\} Tyre {\cf2\super [18]} for the many crimes they did. {\cf2\super [19]} Why? Because they took an entire nation and sent them as slaves to Edom. {\cf2\super [20]} They did not remember the agreement they had made with their brothers (Israel).


So the people of Israel chose some cities to be called “Cities of Safety.” These cities were:
