20 “So the Lord has kept the promise that he gave. I am the king now in place of David my father. Now I rule the people of Israel like the Lord promised. And I built the temple for the Lord, the God of Israel.

“When your life is finished, you will die and be buried with your ancestors. But then I will make one of your own children become the king.


and said, ‘Praise the Lord God of Israel. The Lord put one of my own sons on my throne. And he let me live to see it.”


Then King Solomon prayed a long prayer to the Lord. This is what he said:


You saw he was true and loyal to you.\par And you made an agreement with him.\par You promised to give him the land of\par the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites,\par the Perizzites, Jebusites, and Girgashites.\par But you promised to give that land to Abraham’s descendants. {\cf2\super [50]} \par And you kept your promise!\par Why? Because you are good!\par


God, I bow down toward your holy temple.\par I praise your name,\par your true love,\par and your loyalty.\par You are famous \{for the power of\}\par your word.\par Now you have made it even greater!\par


Power and peace will be in his kingdom. It will continue to grow for this king from David’s family. This king will use goodness and fair judgment to rule the kingdom forever and ever.


Why? Because I am the Lord. And I will say what I want to say, and that thing will happen! And I won’t let the time stretch out. Those troubles are coming soon—in your own lifetime. You rebellious people, when I say something, I make it happen.” The Lord my Master said those things.


I will put my Spirit {\cf2\super [293]} in you and you will come to life again. Then I will lead you back to your own land. Then you will know that I am the Lord. You will know that I said these things and that I made them happen.’” The Lord said those things.


\{God,\} please be true to Jacob, {\cf2\super [82]} \par Be kind and loyal to Abraham, {\cf2\super [83]} \par like you promised our ancestors {\cf2\super [84]} \par a long time ago.\par


But Solomon (David’s son) was the person who built the temple.


Abraham felt sure that God was able to do the thing that God promised.


God began doing good things with you. And God is continuing that work in you. God will finish that work in you when Jesus Christ comes again. I am sure of that.


The Lord kept every promise that he made to the people of Israel. There were no promises that he failed to keep. Every promise came true.
