1 Kings 19:17 - Easy To Read Version

17 {Hazael will kill many bad people.} Jehu will kill anyone that escapes from Hazael’s sword. And Elisha will kill anyone that escapes from Jehu’s sword.

At that time, the Lord began to cut parts from Israel. Hazael king of Aram defeated the Israelites on every border of Israel.


Hazael was the king of Aram. Hazael went to fight against the city of Gath. Hazael defeated Gath. Then he made plans to go fight against Jerusalem.


During all the days that Jehoahaz ruled, Hazael king of Aram caused trouble to Israel.


Then the Lord was angry against Israel. The Lord gave Israel into the power of Hazael king of Aram and Hazael’s son Ben Hadad.


Hazael said, “Sir, why are you crying?”


Then the King Ben Hadad said to Hazael, “Take a gift, and go to meet the man of God. [95] Ask him to ask the Lord if I will get well from my sickness.”


So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, made plans against Joram.


When you arrive there, find Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Then go in and make him get up from among his brothers. Take him to an inner room.


The guard told Joram, “The second messenger went to the group, but he has not come back yet. There is a man driving his chariot [109] like a mad man. He is driving like Jehu son of Nimshi.”


But Jehu pulled his bow with all his strength and shot Joram in his back. [113] The arrow went through Joram’s heart. Joram fell dead in his chariot. [114]


Jehu said to his chariot driver Bidkar, “Take Joram’s body up and throw it into the field of Naboth from Jezreel. Remember when you and I rode together with Joram’s father Ahab, the Lord said this would happen to him.


Today I have put you in charge\par of nations and kingdoms.\par You will pull up and tear down.\par You will destroy and overthrow.\par You will build up and plant.”\par


People will be afraid and run away,\par and they will fall into the deep holes.\par If anyone climbs out of the deep holes,\par he will be caught in the traps.\par I will bring the year of punishment\par to Moab.”\par The Lord said these things.\par


I used the prophets,\par and made laws for the people.\par The people were killed at my command.\par But good things will come\par from those decisions. {\cf2\super [64]} \par


No person will escape—not even the fastest runner. Strong men will not be strong enough. Soldiers will not be able to save themselves.


You will be like a man\par that escapes a lion\par only to be attacked by a bear!\par You will be like a man\par that goes into the safety of his house,\par leans against the wall,\par and is bitten by a snake!\par


Their armies were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse. All the birds ate these bodies until the birds were full.
