1 Kings 19:14 - Easy To Read Version

14 Elijah said, “Lord God All-Powerful, I have always served you the best that I can. But the people of Israel broke their agreement with you. They destroyed your altars. They killed your prophets. I am the only prophet that is still living. And now they are trying to kill me.”

So Elijah said, “I am the only prophet of the Lord here. I am alone. But there are 450 prophets of Baal. [201]


Then Elijah said to all the people, “Now, come to me.” So all the people gathered around Elijah. The Lord’s altar had been torn down. So Elijah fixed it.


Their hearts were not really with God.\par They were not faithful to the Agreement. {\cf2\super [449]} \par


The nation of Israel is full of guilt. This guilt is like a heavy weight the people have to carry. Those people are like bad children from evil families. They left the Lord. They insulted the Holy One (God) of Israel. They left him and treated him like a stranger.


“I love Zion,\par so I will continue to speak for her.\par I love Jerusalem,\par so I will not stop speaking.\par I will speak until goodness shines\par like a bright light.\par I will speak until salvation burns bright\par like a flame.\par


This will be the answer to that question: ‘God destroyed Jerusalem because the people of Judah quit following the Agreement {\cf2\super [176]} of the Lord their God. Those people worshiped and served other gods.’”


Ships from Cyprus will come and fight against the northern king. He will see those ships coming and be afraid. Then he will turn back and take his anger out on the holy agreement. He will turn back and help the people that quit following the holy agreement.


But even if God does not save us, we want you to know, king, that we refuse to serve your gods. We won’t worship the gold idol you have set up.”


But the people broke the Agreement\par just like Adam did. {\cf2\super [65]} \par They were unfaithful to me\par in their country.\par


“Lord, the people have killed your prophets {\cf2\super [117]} and destroyed your altars. {\cf2\super [118]} I am the only prophet still living. And the people are trying to kill me now.” {\cf2\super [119]}


The answer will be: ‘The Lord is angry because the people of Israel left the Agreement of the Lord, the God of their ancestors. [194] They stopped following the Agreement that the Lord made with them when he brought them out of Egypt.


I will take them into the land that I promised to give to their ancestors [206] —a land filled with many good things. [207] And they will have all they want to eat. They will have a rich life. But then they will turn to other gods and serve them. They will turn away from me and break my Agreement.


It will not be like the agreement\par that I gave to their fathers.\par That is the agreement I gave\par when I took them by the hand\par and led them out of Egypt.\par They did not continue following the agreement I gave them,\par and I turned away from them,\par says the Lord.\par
